In what used to be a big rivalry in the Western Conference, the Kings and the Lakers meet tonight in Staples Center. It looks as if multiple stars are banged up or out indefinitely for both sides tonight.

With all the injuries accounted for, the NBA Odds for this one favor the Lakers by -8 ½, with a total of 212 points. Who will prevail in this game this evening and better yet, who will cash us a winning ticket on this NCAAB selection Sunday?

King hurt

DeMarcus Cousins is one hell of a basketball player, and even though he has the temper of a 1 year-old child, Cousins has proven to be a valuable NBA commodity. However, he suffered a thigh bruise in the Kings game one week ago today. He has missed one game, but because of the short week for the Kings, he could make his return tonight for Sacramento. However as always, check back about an hour or 45 minutes prior to the scheduled tip off to make sure.

Even though the Kings didn’t have Cousins this past week against the Bulls, they still put a hurting on Chicago 121-79. The Bulls are the third ranked defense in the NBA this season when it comes to points allowed, so that is not an easy task. However it goes along with the Kings recently, as all of a sudden they are starting to look like the potent offense most of us saw on paper this offseason.

Tonight against the defenseless Lakers, Sacramento could put up a nice point total in LA tonight.

Kobe couldn’t do it

Although he tried to play in the Lakers’ game against the Pacers, Kobe had to exit after the first quarter and not return. I sincerely doubt he will play tonight in Sacramento, as now the Lakers almost have to be cautious with him, even though they cling to only a half game lead on the Jazz for the final playoff spot with under 20 games to go

So, assuming he is out for tonight, you can look at that one of two ways. I personally believe it will hurt them just a little bit more of defense than offense. Yes my NBA Stans, Bryant is one of the best scorers in the NBA, but almost everyone in the NBA can score. Sure it will hurt some on offense, but considering who Kobe would have been guarding tonight, (a likely combination of Tyreke Evans and Marcus Thornton) it could get ugly tonight as those two can fill it up.

I’m not saying the Kings are going to come in and cover and/or win outright, but I will say that the Kings’ offense has been on fire, and the Lakers don’t make it much harder to score than the Kings to.

The Sharp Pick

Once again I am perplexed by the low totals in this game as I was in the other game I covered today. 212 is not enough for the league’s worst defense and another defense that might be in the bottom five as well. Sacramento as well as LA are both in the top ten once again in offensive pace this season, and both have the ability to drop 110 on one another.

The last four times these two teams have played the total has gone over, and regardless of who plays or who sits in tonight’s game, I think the total will fly over regardless. Over is the surest NBA pick here.

My Pick: OVER 212 @ Bovada
