While the Grizzlies have been failing, the Sacramento Kings (15-24) have been winning lately and have improved greatly as a basketball team.
Tip-off is scheduled for Friday, 8:00 pm ET at the FedEx Forum in Memphis, Tennessee
Betting odds have Memphis listed as a 10 point betting favorite and the total for the game is 191.
Memphis is coming into this game having been beaten 3 games in a row by 20 points or more. In these games, they haven’t been able to score over 83 points. Zack Randolph has stated that there is problems in the lockeroom because many members of the team have been mentioned in trade talks.
Obviously, this could be a reason for the dismal play. After all, this is a team in the thick of the Western Conference playoff race. Obviously, not knowing if you’ll be a member of the Grizzlies in the playoffs has dominated the conversation. If Memphis were to make a move, they better make it fast because they’re slipping.
Be a Leader!
Until the proposed trade talks are completed, leading scorer, Rudy Gay, need’s to take control of this team and get it in the right direction. Gay is a consistent basketball player, but that’s not going to give the Grizzlies huge games. With Zach Randolph’s status in question, Gay need’s to play the way that he’s capable if we are going to back them on our NBA betting tickets.
After missing a game for personal reasons (hmmm…), Gay gave a solid effort of 17 points and 8 rebounds against a veteran San Antonio team in a loss. Although he’s more than a pro’s pro, Rudy Gay need’s to come up with a huge game –with so many problems and questions concerning Memphis. Will Gay step up to the plate is another question or will he give the same 17 points per game that he’s been giving for this entire season?
With the combination of Gay, Conley Jr, Gasol, and Randolph, Memphis should be able to steamroll the Kings. Their mental status look’s to be the problem. Can they snap the losing streak before it escalates?
Here Comes Trouble!
It has been said many times that DeMarcus Cousins has the ability to be one of the best players in the NBA. Will it happen is another question?
Cousins is a talented big man –with attitude problems. Until he recognizes that his attitude is the problem, he’s just going to be another Chris Webber or Derrick Coleman; a player with good stats that play’s on a losing team and doesn’t live up to his potential.
Lately, Cousins has been all business. In his last 2 games, he’s averaging 23.5 points, 15 rebounds, and 5.5 assists. The Kings have won both of those games. That alone, is self-explanatory. If Cousins play’s up to his ability, the Kings could be a legitimate contender in the West and give the Grizzlies a huge problem in this game.
At one point, the Kings were Tyreke Evans’ team, but when injuries occur, things change. Nonetheless, Evans has returned to the Kings right where he left off. In his last 2 games, Evans is averaging 19.5 points and 6 rebounds. He’s also 3 for 3 from beyond the arc. If Evans and Cousins can continue to play the way that they’re playing, the Sacramento Kings will climb the Western Conference ladder very quickly.
One disappointing topic for the Kings this season has been the play of Marcus Thornton. Thornton can easily light a team up for 20 points, but has lacked consistency and hasn’t been getting consistent playing time. As alluring as he can be on a fantasy league team for a cheap price, don’t take him.
I love this game so much that I’m going to make it my Best Bet of the DAY! The Grizzlies are a super-talented, but disgruntled team at the moment. Until this team is on the right page as a collective group, they’re going to decline and lose steadily. DeMarcus Cousins has been a flatout beast. There’s nobody on Memphis that can stop him and with the help of Tyreke Evans, the Kings cover this large spread easily.
