Let's review the betting odds for the game between the Boston Celtics and Utah Jazz. Tip-off is scheduled for tonight at 7:30 pm ET at TD Garden in Boston, Massachusetts.

The departures of Al Jefferson and Paul Millsap have greatly affected the Utah Jazz (0-4) as they come off their 4th consecutive loss of the season, but tonight they get a chance to crack the win column when they face the inexperienced Boston Celtics (0-4).

According to most sportsbook, the winless Celts are a 3.5 point betting favorite and the total for the game is 185.

One team will finally pick up a victory when tonight is over. Will it be the revamped Celtics or the Jazz, a team that has been unable to put the pieces together?

Expected Downfall

Boston might be the city of champions, but this isn’t the case where the Boston Celtics are concerned. This is a team that has lost its franchise player in Paul Pierce, a warrior in Kevin Garnett, a 3-point world champion in Jason Terry, and hasn’t been able to recover as of yet.

Rajon Rondo is the only star from the 2008 championship season that’s left and Rondo is in the prime of his career. Unfortunately for Boston, Rondo is tentatively targeted to return to action in December if all goes well.

Jeff Green

Right now, this is Jeff Green’s team and until his last outing, a 95-88 loss to Memphis, Green hadn’t been putting up the necessary 20 plus points in order for this offensively deprived team to win. Against the Grizzlies, Green came through and scored 22 points, but Memphis is known for a tough defense and it wasn’t enough. In order for Boston to win tonight, Jeff Green must put up 20 points or more and needs to look for his shot more than he’s done in previous games. He’s the one offensive threat that Boston can depend on, at home, and against a Utah team that’s reeling, there’s an opportunity for a Celtics win if Green steps up.

Team Chemistry

When I look at the rosters of both teams, I see that Utah has players that are producing; it’s just a matter of working together as a team and not worry about stat lines and individual performances.

With veteran Richard Jefferson finding a 2nd life in Utah, this team is much better than its record indicates. Unfortunately for the Jazz, they don’t have that pure point guard to facilitate the action. In their last game, John Lucas III was their leading assist man with just 4 assists and he didn’t even start the game.

Utah has great talent with the likes of Enes Kanter, Derrick Favors, Gordon Hayward, and Alec Burks; they need to find someone who’s consistently willing to be unselfish and pass the ball. Guys like Burks were pure scorers in college and didn’t play the point guard position. The bottom line is you can’t have Gordon Hayward as a forward and leading the team in assists and expect to win consistently.

Without Rajon Rondo, Boston is also without a pure point guard, but their defense has held up well, allowing just 95 points per game. The offense has an opportunity here, but will they seize it?

Outcome

Without Rondo, the Utah Jazz are the much better team and should pick up an outright victory tonight for our ML NBA picks. The Jazz have a much more established team of players while Boston has potential, but is still trying to find an identity as a collective group. Home court won’t matter here as the Jazz win their 1st game of the 2013-2014 NBA season.
