Game 2 Will Go
The Spurs offense will lead the way. San Antonio scored 54 points in the first half of Game 1 and the Heat were right there with them with 49. If the temperature inside the stadium wasn’t such of a factor, these two teams would have likely kept ripping it up the rest of the way.
Game 1 finished with a total of 205 combined points scored but really, it should have been more. The Heat only had 17 in the fourth quarter mostly because James had to leave the game. If he stays, the Heat likely score more and both teams end up in the 100’s. Take the over with your NBA picks. James will stay healthy for the full game and the two teams will again light up the scoreboard.
Game 2 Will Go
These two teams play better defensively than they showed. After all, we’re talking about the teams that ranked fifth (Miami) and sixth (San Antonio) in points per game allowed during the regular season. In Miami’s case in particular, expect them to perk up and play much better from a defensive perspective than they did in Game 1.
All the Heat really need to do is continue what they were doing in the third quarter and better part of the fourth: keep the Spurs tight under wraps. The levies broke late in the quarter after James was hurt but if the Heat have shown they can muzzle the Spurs. Now they’ll do it for a full game.
Outlook & Pick
At 5Dimes, the total opened up at 199.5 and has now dropped a full point to 198.5. That gives the indication that the bettors believe this will be a tighter contest.
With the air conditioning back online, expect both defenses to show up for this one too. These are two of the better defensive teams in the NBA but they didn’t look like it in Game 1. Expect an uglier, slower pace to Game 2 along with a lower-scoring combined result.
