These two Eastern Conference rivals meet up tonight in Atlanta, and the Heat are favorites on the road by -5. With trade possibilities on the table, how can we beat the odds with our sports picks tonight?

There has been a lot of talk around the Hawks and Josh Smith, but will it have an effect tonight as the Heat come to town? Let’s break this one down a bit more and see where the best value lies for your NBA picks.

To trade or not to trade

We are 24 hours from the NBA trade deadline, and this year has been all about talk and not about action. One of the guys that most still believe will be dealt is Josh Smith of the Hawks. There are a number of teams interested, but the Hawks are trying to hold out for a better deal involving a draft pick, which they won’t get.

It wouldn’t surprise me if Josh Smith were to be traded tonight. Or, if a deal is almost in place, the Hawks might hold him out of the game this evening. All of this is speculative, but if a deal floats by between now and game time, Danny Ferry might take it, and this could send the NBA odds in all sorts of directions.

On top of the possibility of Smith getting traded before tonight’s game, the Heat have owned the Hawks dating back to last season.

The Sharp Pick

Miami has beaten the Hawks five straight times dating back to last season, and they have covered in four of those five games. Miami is also 5-0 SU and ATS in their last five trips to the ATL.

A streak like that is one that can’t last forever, but with the possibility of a late night Josh Smith trade, I am going to offer a play on the Heat as one of my free picks tonight. The Hawks’ defense is spotty at best, and against the Heat, they haven’t faired too well. With the trends on our side, lay the points with Miami.

My Pick: Heat -5
