The Hawks look to finish off the Wizards tonight when game 6 kicks off at Verizon Center in the nation's capital. Can Washington force a series-deciding game 7? Here's a preview complete with NBA picks.

Atlanta Hawks At Disadvantage
Atlanta Hawks head into game 6 with a 3-2 advantage in the series, but NBA betting odds makers list them as the significant underdogs on the NBA odds board at +135 to win outright and the 3-point road pups. Do the bookies have it right?

The NBA betting outlook makes little sense when you consider the Hawks are in an enviable position. Then again, very little about this series and the way it's been priced on the NBA odds board has made sense to us.

Up in the series and, potentially, on the verge of closing it out with a win in Washington tonight, the Hawks have the momentum behind two straight wins. After going down 1-2 in the series, they took back home advantage with a win in game 4 that levelled the series and then moved ahead in game 5. It's interesting to note that both of those times odds makers saw it fit to list the Hawks as the favorites. They were installed as the massive favorites at -205 NBA odds to win outright and the 4.5-point faves in game 4; and they were matched at -315 NBA odds and the 7-point home faves in game 5.

However, the manner in which the Hawks won both of those games leaves a lot to be desired; hence, perhaps therein lies this sudden about turn on the NBA betting board, amongst other things.

If game 5 were any indication, the Hawks are in no way assured of winning tonight. They only just barely squeaked into the win column in Wednesday's game when Al Horford's last-gasp shot lifted the Hawks to the 82-81 victory (all while installed as the prohibitive -315 favorites). Much of the same could be said about the narrow 106-101 result in game 4. So, clearly neither account is hardly the sort of performance that can be considered a ringing endorsement of those prices.

To be fair, this has been a heated series with momentum swings back and forth. It has been a much closer series than the odds makers initially predicted that you could finally say this is the first game that it's being reflected appropriately. On a tight NBA betting line, with angles for profit on both sides of the coin.

Washington Wizards Home Advantage
The Washington Wizards came very close to pulling off the huge road upset in game 5, only to be denied by Al Horford's last gasp shot, which followed immediately after an equally desperate three-pointer by Paul Pierce with less than nine seconds left on the clock that initially gave the Wizards the 81-80 lead.

It was a dramatic showdown altogether in Atlanta, belying the absurd NBA odds trading on both teams. The Wizards have to know they are very much in it, and with the series shifting back to Washington they have a very good shot to force a game 7 in Atlanta.  Not surprisingly, they are the home favorites at -155 to win outright and the 3-point home chalk in what is a must-win game.

NBA Betting Verdict:
This is a must-win game for the Wizards if they hope to stand a chance of advancing into the Eastern Conference finals. They were extremely unlucky to lose game 5 in the dying second so, right after they'd scored what they'd thought was the game winning three-pointer. For your NBA picks, look for a more focused effort by these plucky Wizards at home before their fans as they serve up the home win as the -155 favorites to win outright.
