What in the world has happened to the Indiana Pacers? Once deemed a shoe-in to win the East – or at least compete with Miami for it – they look like a trainwreck that needs to be dismantled. Are they worth taking with your NBA picks for Game 2 or have they already packed it in?
The Atlanta Hawks Can Win Because…
They’re very confident right now. They know that the Pacers are a mess and they know exactly how to take advantage of it. Game 1 was no fluke. The Hawks went into Indiana on April 6th and crushed them 107-88. In Game 1, while the final score looked somewhat close, the Hawks were actually up by as many as 20 in the fourth quarter.
The issue with Indiana is that they didn’t lose a close one in Game 1. It wasn’t a buzzer beater or an accident. They were blown out. The way things are going for them, they’d be even lucky to win Game 2 – let alone cover on the NBA odds board.
The Indiana Pacers Can Win Because…
Game 1 was a wakeup call. If you’re betting on Indiana in this spot, that’s what you’re hoping. You’re banking on the fact that this team is loaded with talent, All-Star caliber players like Paul George, Roy Hibbert, Lance Stephenson and Atlanta is not. You’re thinking that the Pacers, with all of their playoff experience, will get it together and swat away these pesky Hawks. On paper, these teams are worlds apart in quality. The Pacers just have to screw their heads on straight and get a win to get back on track.
Outlook & Pick
The Pacers are a gong show right now. If you think Game 1 was a wakeup call, what about the Pacers getting crushed by Atlanta weeks ago? Or almost losing the No. 1 seed in the Eastern Conference? Or the starters getting benched? Nothing is sparking this team. Hibbert had just eight points and three rebounds in Game 1. How is that even possible? Remember, the Hawks aren’t even playing with Al Horford as he’s out for the season.
The Pacers are in real trouble. If they win Game 2, it will be a tight one. Take the Hawks with your NBA picks. That’s a no-brainer.
