Atlanta is on the road this evening in Boston to play the Celtics this evening, and NBA odds makers are listing the Hawks as +4 underdogs, with a total of 188. This will be the first times these two have played one another since Rajon Rondo went down with injury, so even though the Celtics have owned the Hawks SU in Boston, that could all change this evening.
For starters, Atlanta is 3-1 ATS in their last four trips to TD Garden. All the games were close, and the Hawks were competitive throughout. I’m taking the points with the Hawks tonight for a few reasons.
Atlanta is going to punish the Celtics down low tonight. Al Horford and Josh Smith have been playing outstanding right now, and between those two, I can’t see Boston getting too much of a lead tonight, even at home.
The Celtics are also only 2-5 ATS in their last seven meetings with the Hawks in Boston. Now granted, some a lot of these games in these trends came from the playoffs last season. However, with the exception of a blowout win by the Celtics last year in Boston in Game 3 of their series, their other recent games have been two or three point games when playing in Boston.
The last time these two played, the Hawks won easily, and that was with Rondo for the Celtics. The Hawks haven’t been that bad on the road ATS this season, going 17-14 ATS.
When it comes to placing our NBA picks, I think that the Hawks will come up with another cover tonight in Bean Town, and maybe even escape with a win.
