The Hawks have been the hottest team in the NBA and now get the pleasure of taking on the mess that is the Brooklyn Nets. Come check out our basketball odds preview inside.
Whereas the Hawks are flying high (pun intended), the Nets have been a joke lately, which explains why the NBA betting odds are as funky as they are. For those wondering, Atlanta is laying 13.5 points on their home floor.
We see one of the lower total on the board here, with the O/U at 192.5 at time of this writing. Atlanta is ranked first in the NBA defensively by allowing just 96.2 points per contest on average, so you have to figure they'll be able to slow the disheveled Nets this evening.
They just won't stop winning. The Hawks have now won 16 games in a row, a stunning feat that has seen them shoot to 37-8 overall on the season. It hasn't mattered how stiff the competition - Atlanta is passing every test that's placed in front of them and doing it the right way too.
Few teams out there have the balance that the Hawks possess. Much in the mold of San Antonio - in fact, Atlanta has been called the "Spurs of the East" - Atlanta has built a solid foundation and their system has been working wonders. There's no doubt who the cream of the crop in the Eastern Conference is at this time. When you rank first in defensive PPG allowed and sixth in scoring, you know you're doing something right.
You can't really pinpoint one guy in particular, either. That's the beauty of it. Everyone is contributing to the cause, but you'd have to say Jeff Teague, Paul Millsap and Al Horford have been the three Hawks to stand out most. Don't forget about Kyle Korver's historical season either, as he seems to be benefiting immensely from the offensive system in place in Atlanta.
Things couldn't be much more different with Brooklyn as opposed to the Hawks. The Nets have lost two in a row and have gone a dreadful 2-10 over their previous 12 contests to drop to 18-26 overall.
Not only is Brooklyn losing a lot of games, there's been plenty of turmoil in terms of the actual franchise too. There have been coaching and trade rumors, as the likes of Deron Williams, Joe Johnson and Brook Lopez have all seen their names thrown around in the ring. One thing's clear: this is a rotation that just isn't going to cut it the way it is now, and that's been proven in recent years. Brooklyn has disappointed in a big way and it looks like it's time to just blow it up and try again.
With so much doubt surrounding the Nets, we recommend staying far away from backing them. Let's at least wait until we get a clearer picture of how this roster will look for the rest of the season. It's a situation to avoid for now.
We're not going anywhere near the Nets, regardless of how many points we'd be getting. Brooklyn has been a heavy fade favorite of late and that's a trend that figures to continue until some big changes are made. That Nets roster just has a lot wrong with it, and we're seeing the implications of that.
Meanwhile, Atlanta just keeps rolling on by playing sound basketball game in and game out. The Hawks have won 16 straight games and we're not about to pick against them tonight, especially in a favorable spot at home against a dysfunctional Brooklyn squad.
With that frame of thinking in mind, let's add Atlanta to our NBA picks for tonight and hope for a blowout. Back the Hawks on this busy Wednesday.
