The Thunder were able to advance past the Houston Rockets without one of their starts in the first round, but they’ll likely face a stiffer challenge when meeting up with the Memphis Grizzlies.

Let’s take a closer look at the NBA betting odds for Game 1 of this Western Conference semifinal series at Chesapeake Energy Arena, with the opening tip scheduled for 1:00 p.m. ET on ABC.

Memphis moved past the Los Angeles in six games of their first round series, as it rattled off four wins in a row, including a 118-105 victory as six-point home favorites Friday night, while going OVER the total for a third consecutive contest.

The Grizzlies are 18-8 straight up (SU) and 17-7-2 against the spread (ATS) when playing after three or more consecutive wins, with the UNDER going 17-8-1 in that situation.

Finding a way

Oklahoma City was certainly challenged against the Houston Rockets after losing starting point guard Russell Westbrook for the season with a knee injury, but it ultimately earned a 4-2 series win by capturing a 103-94 victory as one-point road favorites Friday night.

The Thunder are 163-55 SU and 119-96 ATS as favorites the last two-plus seasons, with the OVER holding a 114-100 advantage in terms of the betting total.

During the regular season

NBA handicappers are going to take a long look at potentially backing the Grizzlies as road underdogs in Game 1, considering they captured two of three regular-season meetings with the Thunder.

Memphis did suffer a 106-89 blowout loss to Oklahoma City as 9.5-point road underdogs on Jan. 31, but it played that game in disarray after trading away top scorer Rudy Gay to the Toronto Raptors.

Betting trends of note

The Grizzlies are 9-5 SU and 10-3-1 ATS on the road when the betting total is between 185 and 189.5, while the Thunder have yet to play a game in front of their home fans in that particular point range since the start of the regular season.

Oklahoma City is 5-1 SUATS when playing a team that allows 91 points or less per game, as it prepares to face an opponent that led the NBA in scoring defense.

Game 1 outlook

I established the Thunder as 3.5-point favorites against the Grizzlies in the opening game of this best-of-seven series, which signals a potential play on the home team.

Memphis will likely fall to 2-7 SU as a road underdog of 3.5 to 6 points Sunday.
