The lines were a bit late coming out for this game, but now that we have some numbers, let’s take a look at some of the trends and factors leading up to tonight’s contest.

NBA Picks: Grizzlies vs. Nets

In what should be an exciting inter-conference duel tonight, the Grizzlies come into Brooklyn to play the Nets. Memphis comes in as -2 ½ road favorites on the NBA odds boards in this game, with a total of 180 points.

Grizzlies winning without Gay

After a short “get to know you,” period, the Grizzlies have been playing very well recently, winning their last six games SU, and going 4-2 ATS during that stretch. Since the big trade, the Grizzlies have gone 7-2 SU.

While they may have lost a few points per game, the Grizzlies have gotten better in the areas where they almost are better than everyone; defense. Memphis is 2nd in the NBA in points allowed, and they are back below 90 points giving up 89.9 Memphis is also in the top ten in defending against the 3 pointer.

The list goes on, and now with Tayshaun Prince, their defense has gotten even better. Prince gives them another wing that can guard some of the league’s best small forwards. An interesting matchup in tonight’s game will be Prince against the Net’s Gerald Wallace.

Nets hold fast

Brooklyn was on a nice four game winning streak SU before they met the Rockets on Friday in Brooklyn. They get a chance to retake their court tonight, but it will be a much tougher opponent. Brooklyn has the offensive firepower to beat the good Memphis defense, but they will need some serious contributions.

The long documented troubles of Deron Williams have been in full force recently, and despite the Nets continuing to play well, Williams is looking like he is really hurting, or he may be one of the biggest contract busts in a long time.

In eight games this month, Williams scored 20 points only twice, and in those eight games he shot only 37% from the floor on 112 shots in that period. It’s not like this is a really new trend. Williams is shooting only 41% from the field this season and is in danger of averaging career lows in multiple categories.

The Sharp Pick

Against a nasty Grizzlies team tonight, I can’t help but like Memphis in this one. Joe Johnson will not play tonight due to a sore left heel, and that will put even more strain on a Nets’ team that is beginning to look like Brook Lopez and not much else.

Memphis has covered their last two games against the Nets, including a blowout 24-point victory in Memphis at the end of January. With no JJ tonight for the Nets, Brooklyn’s offense will likely be slowed down even though they’re at home. Remember, Brooklyn is only 12-17-2 ATS in the Barclays Center this season.

Marc Gasol will likely be locking down Lopez tonight on the defensive end, and with D. Williams in such a slump offensively, I can’t see Brooklyn taking down Memphis this evening.
