The Memphis Grizzlies picked up their first win in Friday’s 111-108 overtime triumph against the Detroit Pistons, shooting 51.9 percent at FedEx Forum.
Grizzlies, Randolph edge Pistons
Grizzlies forward Zach Randolph came away with a double-double, notching 16 points and a team-high 10 boards. Memphis’ backcourt duo of Mike Conley and Tony Allen united with Randolph for a perfect 13-for-13 night at the foul line, while Allen grabbed five of his side’s 13 steals.
The affair’s extra minutes began with Memphis making an 11-2 run, including a three-point bucket from Tayshaun Prince. Memphis’ Mike Miller finished with eight points in 32 minutes off the bench, while whistled for five personal fouls.
OVER backers got the money on NBA odds boards as the duel soared above the ‘total’ of 189 ½, with the Grizzlies falling short of cashing as 7 ½-point home ‘chalk.’ Memphis allowed 47.2 percent field shooting, while outscored inside the paint, 56-48.
Mavs, Nowitzki fall in Houston
Dallas trailed by as many as 22 points in Friday’s 113-105 defeat to the Houston Rockets, held to a tight 38 percent night from the floor. Mavericks guard Jose Calderon was held scoreless in 25 minutes of action, while logging a team-high six assists.
Dallas’ Dirk Nowitzki notched 22 points en route to fouling out, sinking 10-of-11 free throws. Mavericks mates Shawn Marion and DeJuan Blair logged 10 boards each, while uniting for three blocks.
The duel’s combined 218 points sailed OVER the ‘total’ of 206 ½ for our NBA picks, with Mavs forward Jae Crowder drilling five shots from three-point land in the fourth quarter. Dallas fell a bucket shy of collecting as a 6 ½-point road dog, while edged in rebounds, 51-43.

Back the OVER in “Big D”
Dallas opened as a two-point home favorite at Pinnacle Sports, with the ‘total’ first set at 190 ½. Early betting on the Mavericks and OVER drove the digits north to 2 ½ and 195, respectively.
I am going with the ‘steam’ here, adding the OVER to Saturday’s sports picks – despite some lost value in the initial line movement.
Dallas has played some loose ball to start the year, allowing 111 PPG – while returning home should have Nowitzki and Co. finding the rims again. The Mavericks connected beyond the arc at an 11-for-24 clip in Wednesday’s home opener against the Atlanta Hawks, with newly-acquired Monta Ellis lighting up the floor with 32 points.
Memphis gave up 52.6 percent shooting against the San Antonio Spurs in Wednesday’s first road duel, allowing double figures from six members of the Spurs’ rosters. The Grizzlies should also have some tired legs after Friday’s overtime battle, adding to an already tough spot for both clubs of playing a third game in four nights.
Dallas began last season’s campaign with the OVER cashing at 6-1 in the team’s first seven home dates, piling in 107.6 PPG. Memphis saw the OVER get the money at 3-1 in its first four road duels last year, with the trio of cashed tickets all coming against Western Conference foes.
