Have the line makers left us some value here or is the price on Memphis warranted?
Match up and Odds
Memphis (25-13, 10-8 Away) have opened up a slight 2 point NBA betting odds favorite to the Bulls who hold a 23-15 record but surprisingly are just 11-10 on their home floor. The total has opened up at a very low 176.
Possible tired legs for the Bulls
Chicago will not only be playing on the back end of a back to back tonight, but they are also coming off two straight grueling over time, hard fought victories; one that was just played last night in Boston. Prior to that, they found themselves in overtime against the Toronto Raptors, but pulled out the victory.
The key here for tonight is that those were road games. So, not only have they played 2 consecutive OT games, they have also traveled quite a bit in a short period of time.
To make matters even worse, star forward, Luol Deng is listed as doubtful for tonight’s game after pulling a hamstring against the Celtics. Chicago is already without star point guard Derrick Rose and their starters have been playing major minutes as of late. Last night against Boston, Joakim Noah logged almost 46 minutes, Carlos Boozer played 31 minutes and Kirk Hinrich played 32 minutes.
This is a really, really bad spot for the Bulls tonight and it wouldn't surprise me at all to see them have one of their worst performances of the season. Coming off all that traveling, consecutive overtime games and starters logging huge minutes, they are going to be running on absolute fumes while playing a very physical Memphis Grizzlies team.
Memphis' ferocious defense
The Grizzlies rank 2nd in the NBA in opponents scoring, holding teams to just 88 points per game and are also 7th in the NBA in opponents field goal percentage, limiting teams to 43% shooting and 35% from beyond the arc. Over their last 10 games they have held opponents under 90 points SIX times.
With the Bulls leading scorer Luol Deng expected to miss tonight’s game, we just don't see where the scoring opportunities are going to come from against this Memphis defense.
Lay the points
This is just way too much to ask of the Bulls in a spot like this and it’s the perfect storm for advantage/spot bettors. This is a great angle; a tired lifeless team, without their leading scorer, going up against one of most physical shut down defenses in the NBA. Now how's that for NBA free picks?
These two teams squared off in Memphis in December and the Grizzlies pulled out an 80-71 victory. We expect that same type of result tonight.
