I think we have a good matchup in the Eastern conference today when the Bulls visit the Pistons. I think a lot of people a really high on the Bulls this year, and for good reason.
Odds makers came out making Chicago a pretty solid favorite at around -4. That line has dropped and now Detroit is getting just +2.5 at home. That makes some sense and I'm going to go ahead for one of my NBA picks today back the Pistons getting the points. Across the board you can get the pistons out this line at around regular juice or at Pinnacle -108.
In just two games Chicago is averaging 106 points per game, 47.9% shooting from the field, and 44.7% shooting beyond the arc. It seems so far the promise of them picking up the pace a bit as compared to last year is coming to fruition but it is still early in the season. There is a lot to like about the Chicago team with a really solid core of Jimmy Butler, Derek Rose, and Pau Gasol. I wasn't a big fan of them getting rid of Tom Thibodeau, but offensively so far they have look good.
Defensively the bulls are allowing 97.5 points per game, 41.2% shooting from the field, and 23.7% shooting beyond the arc. It seems there defensive mindset has carried over from last year and they are the best in the league so far in this short. Allowing just 4.5 three-pointers per game. They face a difficult challenge tonight against a very well coached team in Detroit and I don't see their defense in quite as dominant.
Offensively Detroit is averaging 99 points per game, 39.4% shooting from the field, and 39.6% shooting beyond the arc. Those are some strange averages even though it's just been two games with them actually shooting be on the arc a touch better than from the field. Of course those percentages will change but he gives us a good glimpse as to the focus of this Pistons team. They have some good threats be on the arc but don't think they won't get Andre Drummond the ball in the paint.
Defensively Detroit is allowing 90.5 points per game, 45.9% shooting from the field, and 25.6% shooting beyond the arc. In typical Stan Van Gundy fashion this defense is focused on shooting the three and stopping the three. They defend the perimeter decently and they have one of the best rebounders in the league in Drummond. I thought they did a pretty nice job the other night against Utah, who actually has some talent, and of course their first game against Atlanta. Stopping Chicago won't be easy but I think get enough stops to allow their offense to take over this game.
With the odds makers having the small line of just 2.5, a line which is pretty much correct, we can anticipate a really good game. I think this game goes down to the wire and for one of your NBA picks I recommend backing the Detroit Pistons to either cover the small number or pull off the minor upset. Should be one of the more entertaining games of the day.
