The NBA Preseason is underway and we are only three weeks from the start of the NBA season! While the NBA Preseason isn’t as popular to bet on like its NFL counterpart, there can still be some great value. Tonight that value resides in a West Coast battle between the Clippers and Warriors.

 NBA Preseason Value

BetOnline has NBA Odds in favor of the Warriors at -5 ½, with a total of 206 ½. In a game where the stars don’t play much and the defense is somewhere between non-existent and a smattering, you have to look at history and the teams’ goals for this game.

The Warriors’ starters played less than 20 minutes in their first preseason game against the Raptors, but this is their first preseason game at home, so the crowd will be excited for another season and of course, Kevin Durant.

Durant played the most and impressed in his semi-Warriors debut. He scored nine points in 19 minutes but shot only 2-for-9 from the field. He and the rest of the Warriors starters stand to play a few more minutes in this game to get the chemistry down some more, but even the guys behind them have some talent.

Golden State has some depth with several talented guys are competing for minutes off the bench. JaVale McGee is looking like a solid pickup as a guy who can give you 15-20 minutes at center and he played well in the game against Toronto. Along with veterans David West and Andre Iguodala, and young players like James Michael McAdoo, the Warriors’ depth is superior.

The biggest reason why this is important is the Dubs’ starters didn’t play down the stretch in their first preseason game and I doubt they do this time around either.

The same can be said about the Clippers, who are coming into their first preseason game. Blake Griffin and everyone else is set to be available and while I doubt they play single digit minutes, they are not going to play enough to impact the end of this game.

The Sharp Pick

So, the biggest question is bench versus bench, who comes out with the cover. The Clippers have always struggled with bench depth since this group of players was brought together and even with one of the top five biggest payrolls, the Clippers’ bench is still suspect here.

When in the game, the starters are just going to try to not get injured and even though they’ll compete at the beginning of the game, the realization that it’s just the preseason will come around some time before halftime. After that, it should be the best group of young guys that take over the game and that advantage is squarely in Golden State’s corner, and that makes them our NBA pick.
