We have an unusually large card here in the NBA for Saturday night, and for my single game pick tonight, I’ve chose to cover the Clippers and Rockets.

NBA Picks: Clippers vs. Rockets

The NBA Odds for Saturday tab the Rockets are slight one-point favorites, with a total of 205 points. With both teams playing last night, whom should we bet on in a game where both teams will be playing with no rest?

Last night and back-to-back

Both of these teams lost close games last night on the road. The Clippers played the Spurs to 2-points in San Antonio last night, getting the cover but not the SU win. The Rockets played in Memphis last night and they lost both SU and ATS 103-94.

So, with both teams losing some ground last night, both will be itching to get back on the court and regain some of that tight ground in the West. The Rockets are only 1 ½ games up on the Jazz for the 7th seed out West, while LA dropped down to 4th with their loss last night, allowing the Nuggets to move up to 3rd.

Neither one of these teams play exceptionally well on the second night of a back to back. The Clippers aren’t bad, going 10-8 ATS on the second night of a back to back, while the Rockets are a bit worse going 7-11 ATS in the same situation. Seeing as the spread is basically a pick em tonight, and with both teams tired, I’m laying off the short spread and going with a total of 205 tonight.

Houston home cooking

Coming off the road to their beds at home should be welcome for the Rockets tonight, as they play so much better at home. With both teams tired this evening from their games last night and the long season, I think the over is the best NBA Pick, and I think we have just a little bit of value coming from the over tonight.

Being at home tonight should help the Rockets with their scoring. They average about 104 points per game scored and given up against West teams this season, and at home in general this season the Rockets are putting up over 109 points per game.

In step the Clippers, who yes are a solid defensive unit, but on the road it’s a bit different. LA gives up about 96 points per game on the road this season and even a point or so more than that when playing against teams in their own conference this season.

However good LA may be on the defensive end, I think offense will be the name of the game tonight between these two very good offensive teams. The question is, will the short rest help the offense or the defense?

The Sharp Pick

A short four game road trip for LA will conclude tonight, and it may not have come soon enough. LA has given up and average of 101 points per game over their last three road games, and against the Rockets tonight, I see that average going up. The last time these two played from Houston the total went way over, as the final score was 117-109.

The Clippers have scored 117 and 106 points against the Rockets this season in their two games, and I don’t see any reason to believe coming off the back to back will hurt their scoring output. If anything, their defense will be a little spotty, which will allow this total to go over.

The over has cashed in five of the last six games overall for the Clippers, and in four of their last five road games. Plus, the over has cashed at 10-4 in the last fourteen meetings these two have had from Houston.
