Two Atlantic division teams head into battle tonight against one another, as the Celtics head down to play the Sixers. Where have the NBA odds makers left the door open for us tonight?

The NBA Odds for this one favor the C’s at -2 ½ with a total of 184 ½. Both teams had the night off on Monday and should be rested, so let’s see who should win this one tonight from the city of brotherly love.

Boston clawing

If there were an award for doing everything right and no one noticing this season, the Celtics would be it. When their star player and one last hope for a title with this group went down with an ACL tear, it looked as if starting over from the lottery was the way to go.

Instead, the Celtics have gone 11-4 SU and are steadily clawing their way up the standings in the East. Although I think we all have written them off for a title this season anyway, it’s nice to see a team not tanking when no one would have blamed them for doing it at all. We all wrote them off including the books as well, but the Celtics have been steady since the loss of Rondo.

Tonight on the road is another issue for the Celtics, as they have struggled both SU and on the road this season. Boston is 10-16-2 ATS this season on the road, and they have been even worse against Philly on the road in the past. However, these are two very different teams from the ones that had Andre Iguodala and Rajon Rondo playing.

Sixers size up lottery

The nails have been in the coffin for some time with this team, and one could argue it came even before the season started with the announcing of Andrew Bynum’s injury status. Philly has lost eight of their last nine games SU, and the only game they won was against a team that was playing their fourth game in five nights. This team is freefalling.

However, they have not been that bad ATS, covering three of their last five games. Philadelphia also plays much better at home as opposed to on the road this season, going 17-15 at home this season.

The Sixers have a lot of success against the Celtics, including pushing them to an elimination game in the playoffs last season, and winning and covering two of their three matchups this season. However, things have changed, and this looks like a while new game.

The Sharp Pick

I think I have to throw out all the trends ATS between these two, because when you lose an Iguodala on one side (and still of course with no Bynum) and Rondo on the other, the two teams both lost their best player.

Although Jrue Holiday has stepped up into that role this season, as you can see by their record, it hasn’t helped much. The Sixers big lack of a post presence is normally exploited, but the Celtics are even worse on the glass. This is yet another reason why the spread is off limits.

However as you guessed, the total seems like a pretty solid sports betting value this evening. Normally these two teams are solid defensively, but during their losing streak, the Sixers have given up almost 99 points per game in their last nine games. They know they are done for the season, and I think the defense is the first to go.

On the other side, the Celtics have been all over the place since Rondo went down, but I am confident in their ability to score the ball tonight, so I am siding with the Celtics team total. Boston should easily get over 93 ½ tonight, so add it to your NBA Picks

My NBA Pick: Celtics TT OVER 93 ½ & OVER 184.5
