Free NBA picks for tonight's matchup between the Cleveland Cavaliers and the Detroit Pistons. Where do our NBA handicappers believe that the best value lies?

We have a busy evening for Friday, and one of my NBA picks for this evening is the Cavaliers on the road in Detroit. The Pistons are favored by -5 ½, with a total of 197 ½.

As was the case with many of the day’s games, the NBA odds were a little late coming out for this game, and that probably has a lot to do with whether or not the Pistons are going to have there new point guard Jose Calderon available. The Pistons were the third team that facilitated the Rudy Gay trade, and in exchange for Tayshaun Prince and Austin Daye, got Calderon.

Whether he plays or he doesn’t, it doesn’t change the fact that the total is a tad high in my opinion and according to my calculations. This only leaves the door open for us to swoop in and grab the total with great value on the line.

With the exception of a few games in 2011, the totals between these two teams’ games have been at least 3 to 9 points lower. Detroit has an impressive five game covering streak against the Cavs, but in their last ten games against one another, THIS total would have cashed the under seven times. Normally, one team has a bad game, and it’s normally been the Cavs. Cleveland does not score well on the road, and the Pistons normally play much better defense at home, ranking 11th in the NBA in home points allowed.

Despite Cleveland being one of the worst defensive teams when playing on the road, (and in general for that matter) the Pistons aren’t an offensive juggernaut, and even if Calderon suits up for the first time as a Piston, the offense won’t come immediately. Take the under.

NBA Pick: UNDER 197.5
