Current NBA odds prove that the Miami Heat are the clear favorites to take home the NBA title once again. When making our NBA picks, is there any team who could take down the Heat in a seven game series?

Much like everyone in Game of Thrones, there are 29 NBA teams that would love to knock out Miami and avoid a back-to-back Heat championship. At this point in the season, it seems almost certain that the NBA Title will once again go through Miami. The Heat are -125 to win the NBA Title this season, and the next closest team is the Thunder are +400.

While it seems like this is definitely Miami’s to lose, there are a few teams that I think have a chance of knocking off the Heat. Don’t get me wrong; to knock off Miami is going to be an extremely tough chance. The three teams I have chosen need a lot to go right for them, but I truly believe that these three teams have the best shot of beating Miami in a seven game series.

(Future odds listed are to win the championship at 5Dimes)

New York Knicks +2500

The Knicks are a huge long shot to win the title, but the more and more you look at it, the Knicks need three things to go right for them to beat Miami in what could be the Eastern Conference Finals. First thing is they need to defend. I think in a playoff series of that potential magnitude, I don’t think we have to worry about that. They also need to be healthy and hitting their threes. If all three of those things can happen, Miami could be watching the Finals. However, those are all three big ifs in a series against Lebron James.

San Antonio Spurs +635

A MUCH more likely conqueror would be the Spurs, who are listed at 6/1 by the NBA odds to win the title. San Antonio has been dealing with some injuries of their own, so basically the same three things that could make the Knicks win could be applied to the Spurs as well. Health, defense and knock down shooting. The Spurs are better on all three of those fronts than the Knicks, but the west is going to be tough, and big battles in the conference could lead to the Spurs falling short in a finals scenario against Miami.

Oklahoma City Thunder +400

A rematch of last year’s Finals looks like the likely path for this season, as the Spurs are hurting and I’m almost certain the Knicks won’t beat Miami. OKC has issues of their own, and it starts with the fact that James Harden is in a different uniform. Without him and with Kevin Martin in his place, I’m not sure if the Thunder can beat a healthy San Antonio team again. Whoever is in the Finals, they will almost certainly have a tough task.
