We’re going to examine Friday’s NBA contest between Philadelphia and Cleveland. Do you want to know who’s going to cover in this game and why? Just go inside to get our NBA pick.

Best and Worst of the Eastern Conference
The Cavaliers (4-1) will host the 76ers (0-4) on Friday in a NBA Eastern Conference matchup. The opening tip at Quicken Loans Arena in Cleveland is slated for 7:35 PM ET. At the time of this writing, NBA odds at 5Dimes had Cleveland as a 14.5 point favorite, and the posted total was 194.5. These teams have met once already this season, and Cleveland walked away with a 107-100. The 76ers were able to cover in that contest as a 13-point home underdog, and the game went over its total of 195. In their three meetings a season ago, Philadelphia covered each time, and all of those games stayed under the total.

The Essence of Futility
Philadelphia has gone through some really tough times in recent years. The 76ers are a pathetic 37-131 (.220) during the past two plus NBA campaigns. How else can you explain a team being an underdog of 14.5 in just their fifth game of the season, regardless of who their opponent may be? It’s been an absolute futile stretch for this once proud franchise, and quite frankly there’s very little light at the end of the tunnel. They’ve begun this season by going 0-4, and have been outscored by an average of 14.0 points per game. On a positive note, they’ve been at least competitive in each of their last two games, and covered on both occasions. The 76ers average point spread this season has been +10.4.

Cavs on a Roll
Cleveland opened the season with a narrow 97-95 loss at Chicago, and since that time they’ve won four games in a row. They have gone under the total in four of their first five games. A major contributor to those low scoring contests has been their play on the defensive side of the floor. Ironically, the only opponent to crack the 100 point barrier against them this season has been Philadelphia. Coincidentally, that was the 76ers highest scoring total of this early season. Cleveland has allowed only 90.2 points per game, and has held opponents to a mere 41.0% shooting from the field.

Final Thoughts and Pick
Philadelphia averages a terrible 88.2 points per game, shoots a miserable 39.2% from the field, and converts on just 29.2% of their three point attempts. Cleveland has gone under the total in their first two home games, and there were a combined average of only 188.0 points scored per contest. I’m going to have an ever so slight lean on this game being a relatively low scoring affair. One of my NBA picks will follow that hunch.

NBA Picks: Play on under the total of 194.5 at 5Dimes

[/]{"component":"oddswidget", "eventId":2882537, "sportsbooksIds":[1096,93,19,92,238,349], "LineTypeId":3, "PeriodTypeId":1}[/]
