NBA Picks: Spurs -15.5
Best Line Offered: at Pinnacle

LA Lakers (11-41)
The Los Angeles Lakers are mired in a woeful season which hangs on an abysmal 11-41 record and has them propping up the Western Conference. To all intents and purposes, the season is a complete and utter write off. What do they have to play for, save for pride maybe?

Given their struggles, it’s no surprise the Lakers are at the severe disadvantage on the NBA odds board. Markets opened with the Lakers hanging on a 15-point spread at Pinnacle, but they were quickly bet up to 15.5. Other sportsbooks saw the line go up to 16-points where it currently stands.

The Lakers are recently buoyed by a two-game winning streak that sees them improve to a 2-8 SU record in their last ten games. They beat Minnesota 119-115 as the +4.5 point underdogs and New Orleans 99-96 as the 9.5-point underdogs. They are a win away from matching their best run of form this season – a three-game winning streak in the New Year that saw them beat Boston, Philadelphia and Phoenix.

Overall, the Lakers are 11-41 SU with a 9.9-point losing margin and a negative 1.6-point differential versus the spread. However, they boast a so-so 23-29 record versus the spread on the season.

As away underdogs, they are just 5-23 SU with a 12-point losing margin on average and a negative 1.9-point differential versus the spread. Once again, they are a so-so 12-16 ATS on the road. Most recently, they’ve covered five of their last eight games.

San Antonio Spurs (42-8)
The San Antonio Spurs are riding high in the Western Conference, sat in second with a solid 42-8 record on the season. They are top of the Southwest division with their record, highlighted by a 13.6-point winning margin and a plus 4.2 differential versus the spread.

The Spurs are riding a three-game winning streak into Saturday’s date with the Lakers, a run of form that includes wins over Orlando, New Orleans and Dallas and covers in the last two games. They missed the cover in the 107-92 win over Orlando narrowly, miss as the 15.5-point faves by just half a point.

Obviously, the Spurs are the overwhelming home favorites in this game and the popular NBA pick with 66% of spread tickets in Consensus betting polls going towards the cover at home. Underscoring their favoritism and popularity is a convincing 27-0 SU mark at home that includes a 16.6-point winning margin on average and a plus 4.9-point differential versus the spread.

On the season, the Spurs are 33-17 ATS with a 13.6-point winning margin and a plus 4.2-point differential versus the spread. At home, they are 19-8 ATS with a 16.6-point winning margin and a plus 4.9-point differential versus the spread.

NBA Betting Verdict
Nobody is surprised by the market outlook on this game with the Spurs favored overwhelmingly over the hapless Lakers. Indeed, NBA betting polls point towards a clear trend towards the hosts on NBA picks, despite the hefty double-digit spread. It’s a lot of points to lay with the hosts, make no mistake, but we’re also going with the consensus NBA Pick and taking the hosts to cover.
