After playing better over their last few games, the Sixers have yet to get their first win of the season. However, it’s only a matter of time for this NBA odds underdog.

Only A Matter Of Time
The last two games for the Sixers have probably been harder on them than their first 13 or 12 losses of the season. Against the Heat and Wolves, the Sixers were leading late in the game, but simply could not hold off runs from the likes of Andrew Wiggins and the Heat as a whole. However, the Sixers covered in both of those games, and tonight they get the Boston Celtics as +10 ½ underdogs, with a total of 199 ½ on the NBA odds. After the Celtics played last night and got blasted by the Hawks, it might be another good night to take the points with the Sixers and hope they can keep it close enough to cover.

The Celtics have looked great to start the season but in their last two games their defense has fallen apart, which is quite uncommon for this Brad Stevens-coached club. On the year Boston was giving up only about 99 points per game, but in their last two they have given up an average of 116 points per game to the Hawks and Nets. Even against the Sixers tonight, if the Celtics defense doesn’t show up at home, the Sixers could easily threaten for their first win in this one.

Philadelphia has actually played better defense on the road than at home this season, and after cashing their last two games, they are approaching .500 ATS on the year. While it may seem a little crazy, the Sixers are not 10 points worse than the Celtics who are coming off two bad games and a back to back.

The Sharp Pick
Another factor in this one making the Celtics overvalued is they have dominated the most recent meetings between these two divisional rivals. That’s excepted after how bad Philly has been over the last few years, but only one of those games had a larger spread than the one tonight. Despite the fact that they are still missing several important players, the Sixers just got back Robert Covington, and his presence has been felt immediately. In their two most recent games of which they covered both, Covington dropped nearly 20 points per game, and he hit six triples in those two games. The Celtics frontcourt has been good this season, but Covington is a tough cover for anyone the Celtics throw out there. The Sixers have also gotten a lot from Covington’s fellow OVC companion on the Sixers, Isaiah Canaan, who has scored 18 points per game in their last two.

While the Celtics should easily get above 100 points this evening, I see the Sixers only a few possessions behind them in the end. Boston is giving up 103 points per game to their divisional opponents this season, and while the Sixers have been even worse on defense against their division so far through two games, their defense might ramp up tonight against a beatable team. They likely won’t win SU, but I’m making my NBA pick on the Sixers third straight ATS win.
