With both teams in essentially must win situations we should have an excellent matchup when the Washington Wizards visit the Detroit Pistons. NBA picks inside.

Wizards and Pistons are both coming off a back to back and the NBA odds boards have made the home Pistons a small favorite. Which team is heading to the playoffs?

Washington Wizards
The Wizards have lost five of their last 10 games and rank fifth in the NBA in assists per game at 24.3 per contest. This is a huge game for Washington and when Bradley Beal is healthy they can compete with most teams in the league. Offensively they have been good for the most part this season and rank 10th in the NBA in overall, two, and three point shooting percentage. Much like their counterpart tonight they will get up tempo with their strong guard play ranking 10th and seventh in the league in field goals attempted and made per game respectively. Consistently I have been bothered this season about Washington and their insufficiencies on the defensive side of the ball.

On the season they have allowed 104.6 points per game which ranks 21st in the league. Most glaring though is their opponent shooting averages where the Wizards rank 23rd, 24th, 25th, and 26th in opponent two point shooting percentage, effective field goal percentage, overall, and three point shooting percentage respectively. This will spell trouble against a Detroit team at home that will get up a lot of shots tonight.

Detroit Pistons
The Pistons have won seven of their last 10 games and rank fifth in the NBA averaging 86.6 field goal attempts per game. They have been just about what Stan Van Gundy has envisioned; a team that shoots at a high rate and limits shots from beyond the arc. On both ends of the spectrum they rank as one of the best rebounding teams averaging 56.5 boards per game which ranks second in the league but they can’t shoot a free throw to save their life at just 66.4% which ranks dead last in the league.

Fortunately they are at home tonight where their free throw and overall offensive percentages go up and this should be the difference in them covering tonight’s small line. The Pistons have been good but not great defensively and will have their hands full tonight versus Wall and Beal. The Wizards are a decent three point shooting team but, as mentioned, the Pistons are one of the best in the league in this area allowing opponents just 20.6 three pointers attempted and 7.3 made per game, both of which rank second in the league. Back Pistons tonight as your NBA picks
