Do the veteran Spurs have enough in the tank to compete with the defending champion Miami Heat? Let's evaluate this matchup and decide on our NBA picks for game 3.
Tip-off is set for Tuesday, 9:00 pm ET at AT&T Center in San Antonio, Texas. This game can be seen on ABC TV.
According to Bet 365, odds makers have less faith in the Spurs ability to win as San Antonio is only a 2.5 point betting favorite and the total for the game is 187.
There’s very little turnover time from game 2 to game3; could this be a factor on Tuesday?
Chalmers the “X Factor?”
Dwayne Wade and Chris Bosh had solid games in the 103-84 victory on Sunday, but it’s clear that Wade is injured and Bosh will only give so much offensively.
Mario Chalmers isn’t a consistent enough player to be considered anything other than a role player, but he comes up big on occasions. Sunday was one of those days as he provided 19 huge points for the Heat.
Whether or not Chalmers can have another game like this seems unlikely, but expect him to be more of a factor. Dwayne Wade will only have a short period of time to rest and isn’t at 100%.
I must admit when I saw this mohawked, tattoo-laced looney, I thought that Chris Anderson’s existence on the court was part of a gimmick. Make no mistake about it; this big man is a major contributor coming off of the bench. He can provided toughness and score in the middle while playing tough defense. This is something that Joel Anthony can’t provide.
Anderson is coming off of a 9 point, 4 rebound performance in 14 minutes. If game 3 is closer, we’ll see a lot more of The Birdman.
Look for Lebron to go back to scoring. Dwayne Wade’s body isn’t cooperating and there’s no other player on the Heat squad that looks capable of putting up 20 points or more.
Duncan Bounce Back Game
You’re either going to see The Big Fundamental have a big game in game 3 or he’s going to fizz out in this series and leave it up to Parker, Ginobili, and Splitter. We saw what happened when Splitter decided to take the ball to the hole…..
Look for Duncan to regain the touch and look for his offense; this player is too great to come up short against such a formidable foe in the Miami Heat.
Is Ginobili Done?
We’ll also find this out as Manu has logged a lot of minutes nationally and internationally. It’s obvious that Ginobili isn’t the player that he once was, but the dropoff appears to be dramatic. He scored just 5 points in 18 minutes.
For the Spurs to be really effective, Ginobili needs to inspire this “non-vocal” team through his tough play and timely shots. It seems to be a longshot at this point, but not impossible.
The Spurs could possibly have lost some confidence in game 2. If Miami wins here, the series will be over quick. I think that LBJ comes into Texas tonight and rides off with a win to his hotel room.
