The Clippers had a tough game last night against the Spurs, which they ended up losing after playing San Antonio tough for three quarters. Now they have to get out on the road to play another Texas team, and the NBA odds have the Rockets as -1 favorites, with a total of 213.

Los Angeles and Houston Resurgence
It’s tough to judge a team based on how they play the Spurs, because San Antonio has been so good this season that in most cases teams put up duds when they travel into the AT&T Center in San Antonio. However, the Clippers were leading by six points heading into the fourth quarter last night, but were limited to only 19 points in the 4th and gave up 30 points to the Spurs to lose the game. Despite this, the Clippers have obviously played the Spurs well since last year’s playoff victory, and overall after a rocky start and the drama from inside the locker room a few weeks ago, the Clippers have been playing well recently.

After opening the season 6-7 SU, the Clippers have gone 10-4 SU, and their only losses since the 27th of November have been to the Pacers, Bulls and now the Spurs. Even though they are not playing off the back to back, the Rockets could have some troubles defending the Clippers just the same. The first time they played this season, Houston won the game in LA 109-105, and you can bet that the Clippers are playing better since that game.

While the Clippers are playing noticeably better since their rocky start to the season, the Rockets have also looked somewhat better over their last 12 games too, going 8-4 SU in that stretch. However, their eight wins during that stretch have come against the Lakers, Wizards, Kings, Sixers, Knicks, Mavs and Pelicans, which needless to say is not the greatest competition. Tonight against true Western Conference competition, the Rockets might falter some, and the defensive end might be where it takes place. While Houston’s offense is averaging 108 points per game over their last 10 games, their defense is giving up nearly 105 points per game in that same stretch. With the Clippers’ tired from their game last night, and with the Rockets scoring better, the total is where I am looking at for my NBA pick on this game.

The Sharp Pick
The over has cashed in nine of the Clippers 12 road games this season, and coming off the back to back I can’t see it not cashing here once again. While the back to back could limit their offense some, going against the fast paced and defenseless Rockets could be what cures their tired legs this evening. The over is also 5-2 for the Rockets in their last seven home games, and even though the total is quite large at 213 on the NBA odds board, both of these teams have the firepower to get it done tonight.

Houston is healthy which is a big factor for this game too. They should have plenty to throw at Blake Griffin and Chris Paul in order to make them work on defense. Off the back to back, that may also lead to more points scored as well. The over has cashed in seven of the last eight times these two have met, and while most of those were in the playoffs, I feel confident going to back to the over well tonight. Take the over and add it to your NBA picks for Saturday night.
