We’ll be examining Game 1 of the Eastern Conference playoff series between the Hawks and Nets which is set to begin on Sunday. Our betting preview article concludes with a NBA betting angle which has gone 79.4% ATS during the past five seasons.
Game 1 in Atlanta between Nets and Hawks on Sunday
The Atlanta Hawks will host the Brooklyn Nets on Sunday at 5:35 PM ET. This will be the opening game of their best of seven Eastern Conference playoff series. According to the NBA odds at BetOnline, Atlanta is a 10.5 point favorite, and the posted total is 201.5. Atlanta defeated Brooklyn in all four of their regular season meetings, and covered on three of those occasions. Both games played at Atlanta went over the total, and there was an average combined 222.5 points scored per contest.
Nets sneak into Playoffs with late winning Surge
The Brooklyn Nets went 13-6 in their final nineteen regular season games, and that stretch was an integral part of them qualifying for the playoffs as the #8 seed in the Eastern Conference. However, their accomplishment didn’t come without some late drama. Brooklyn defeated Orlando in their regular season finale, and then needed a loss by the Indiana Pacers later that evening in order for them to get into the postseason. They can be very grateful to the Memphis Grizzlies who easily defeated the Pacers in that contest. The Nets were a respectable 19-22 on the road this season, and covered twenty-three of those forty-one games.
Dominant Home Court
The Atlanta Hawks were a fantastic 35-6 at home this season, although two of those six defeats came in their last seven games at home. They also went a very profitable 26-15 ATS in those forty-one games. However, the Hawks were just 7-8 in the last fifteen overall, and that includes 0-3 SU&ATS in their final three regular season games. In Atlanta’s defense, they had the Southeast Division title clinched for quite some time, and also had secured the #1 seed in the Eastern Conference without much of a challenge from any other team. As a result, they rested various key players down the final stretch of the regular season, hoping to avoid injuries, and keeping them fresh for the upcoming playoffs.
NBA Betting Angle
The Brooklyn Nets went 1-2 SU&ATS in their final three regular season games. They failed to cover by 47.0 points in their two ATS losses, and covered by 4.0 in their lone win. The cumulative count of -43.0 points ATS during those last three contests, the time of the year, and the current point-spread qualifies for a very profitable betting system. I will use that valuable handicapping tool as part of my arsenal when making my NBA picks for Sunday.
Any road underdog of 10.0 or more (Nets), playing in the month of April, and they failed to cover by a combined 18.0 points or more in their previous three games, resulted in that road underdog going 27-7 ATS (79.4%) during the past five seasons.
NBA Pick: Play on Brooklyn +10.5 over Atlanta at BetOnline.
