We’re going to break down the NBA Eastern Conference Quarterfinal playoff series between Washington and Atlanta that gets underway on Sunday. Take the time to read our intriguing betting preview article that concludes with a money line series selection.
NBA Southeast Division Rivals Collide in Second Round Playoff Series
The Washington Wizards will travel to Atlanta to open their second round playoff series on Sunday at 1:05 PM ET. According to the NBA odds at Bookmaker, Atlanta is -215 and Washington +180 on the money line to win the series. These Southeast Division rivals met four times during the regular season and Atlanta was 3-1 in those encounters. The four contests all went over the total with a combined average of 206.3 points per game scored.
The Washington Wizards disposed of the Toronto Raptors in the opening round of the playoffs by sweeping them in four straight games. As a result, they enter this series versus Atlanta with six days of rest. The other part of the equation is that the Wizards won two of the four games versus Toronto in a lopsided manner, and were able to minimize minutes of key players in the process. They should have very fresh legs, and that could pay dividends later in the series.
The Atlanta Hawks had a tougher than expected time with the Brooklyn Nets in the Eastern Conference Quarterfinals. The Nets were able to force Atlanta to go six games before bowing out. That series just concluded on Friday evening, and the Hawks were only afforded one day of rest, and have an early start time on Sunday to boot.
The Atlanta Hawks have gone a terrific 38-6 on their home floor this season, including a perfect 3-0 in their opening round series win over Brooklyn. They also went a very profitable 27-17 ATS (61.4%) in those forty-four games at the Philips Arena in Atlanta.
The Washington Wizards are a pretty darn good team at home in their own right. The Wizards have gone a stellar 31-12 at the Verizon Center in Washington this season. Similar to their opponent in this series, Washington is also a profitable 25-18 ATS (58.1%) on their home floor.
The Washington Wizards raced to a very good start to the year, and then coasted during the second half of the schedule. One can make the argument they vastly underachieved during that unimpressive stretch. Whatever the case may be, they put the other three remaining Eastern Conference teams on notice by totally dismantling Toronto in four games. They have the look of a team that can make a very deep playoff run.
The Atlanta Hawks were arguably the biggest surprise team in the NBA this season. They easily ran away with the Southeast Division title and finished first overall in the Eastern Conference. On a negative note, they did show signs of coming back down to earth during the final stretch of the regular season, and even at times during their opening round win over Brooklyn. The Hawks have gone a very average 11-10 in their last twenty-one games overall, and suffered two of their six home losses in that time period. I’m going to fade the series favorite for one of my NBA picks.
