The Wizards have had one of the more underrated defenses in the NBA all season and the ‘under’ is 15-6 in Washington road games. The 76ers can’t score so go ‘under’ again.

Do not look for too much scoring on Wednesday night when the revived Washington Wizards (11-32, 3-18 away) pay a visit to the Philadelphia 76ers (18-26, 12-11 home) at the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia, PA at 7:05 ET.

The posted total at 5 Dimes is 190½ for this contest with the current odds on the ‘under’ set at -108.

The Washington Wizards may be 11-32, but they are 7-4 in their last 11 games to coincide with the season debut of John Wall and two of their three road wins this season have come during this current span.

One thing that the Wizards have done well as season though that has gone unnoticed because of their record is play defense. Believe it or not, Washington is ranked seventh in the NBA in points against at 96.2 per game, eighth in field goal percentage allowed at 43.8 percent, ninth in three-point defense at 34.8 percent and ninth in defensive efficiency at 100.6 points per 100 possessions.

Now the Wizards are still dead last in the NBA in both scoring (91.4 points per game) and field goal percentage (42.2 percent), but the offense has picked up nicely since Wall retuned , accounting for the Washington resurgence. Do not overlook the continued fine play of the defense though, as it has held 10 of its last 12 opponents below 100 points.

Also, the ‘under; is now 15-6 in all Washington road games this season, with only one of the Wizards’ last eight road opponents reaching the century mark.

That defense could get some help here from the Philadelphia offense, as the 76ers rank 27th in the NBA in scoring at 93.4 points per game. The Sixers like to play at a slow pace, ranking 22nd in the league with a pace rating of 93.2 possessions per game, but that is not the only reason for their low scoring average as they are also 23rd in offensive efficiency at only 99.9 points per 100 possessions.

The 76ers have been a disappointment defensively this year after finishing third in the NBA last season allowing 89.4 points per game, as that defense has only shown up a few times this season. Still, Philadelphia is allowing 96.8 points per game over the last five games, which is an improvement from its early season form.

At the end of the day, we think that the Wizards have a great shot at an upset here, but we like the ‘under’ a lot more as we do not see this contest getting out of the 180s on Wednesday.
