The ‘under’ is unbelievably 19-1 in the last 20 Wizards road games while the Nets play at the slowest tempo in the NBA, so do not look for too much scoring in Brooklyn on Friday.

A very low scoring game should be in store on Friday night when the Washington Wizards (19-40, 5-23 away) pay a visit to the Brooklyn Nets (35-26, 20-13 home) at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, NY at 7:35 ET.

The posted total at Bookmaker Sportsbook is 183 for this contest with the current odds on the ‘under’ set at -110.

Believe it or not, these two teams are both among the NBA leaders in points against, with the Washington defense being especially underrated. In fact, the Wizards are ranked sixth in the league in points against at only 95.2 per game, fifth in field goal percentage against at 43.6 percent and sixth in three-point defense at 34.2 percent!

Simultaneously, the Wizards remain dead last in the NBA in scoring offensively at 91.8 points per game. Yes, the offense improved shortly after John Wall made his belated season debut, but not enough to get out of the scoring basement and that offense has normalized again as of late, with the Wizards averaging 89.0 points on 43.8 percent shooting over the last five games.

With an underrated defense and a poor offense, Washington has become an ‘under’ players dream especially on the road. In fact, almost unbelievably, the ‘under’ is now 19-1 in the last 20 Washington road games, bring the road ‘under’ record for the season to 22-6! Furthermore, Washington road games are averaging a combined 181.2 points for the season and 177.8 points over those last 20 road affairs, during which the Wizards have reached 100 points only twice.

These teams last met back in Washington on February 8th, and that contest may have set the NBA back 60 years as the Wizards won 89-74. Washington shot a half-decent 45.0 percent but committed 13 turnovers, while the Nets shot a dismal 32.9 percent and committed 15 turnovers.

Furthermore, the Wizards’ super rookie Bradley Beal, who actually leads the team in scoring (14.2 per game) and assists (2.5), missed an ugly 87-82 loss at Minnesota on Wednesday and is doubtful for tonight’s game with an ankle injury that had him on crutches a few days ago.

The Nets meanwhile are fifth in the league in points against at 94.6 points per game and 19th in the league in scoring with 95.0 points per contest. Much of that has to do with the Nets playing at the slowest pace in the league, and there in no reason for Brooklyn to pick up the tempo tonight.

The Nets rank dead last in the NBA with a pace rating of 90.8 possessions per game. Comparatively, Washington is a middle-of-the-road 14th in pace with 94.4 possessions. The pace is not the only reason why the Nets do not score much, as they are also just 17th with a field goal percentage of 44.2 percent. The end result has been a 9-3 ‘under’ run for the Nets vs. Eastern Conference teams.

Given the expected tempo of this contest, look for Washington’s road ‘under’ run to reach an incredible 20-1 on Friday.
