The Trail Blazers continue to be involved in one shootout after another as they are scoring a lot of points but giving up even more. The Hornets get Eric Gordon back tonight so go ‘over’.

Look for an entertaining high scoring game on Wednesday night when the Portland Trail Blazers (25-27, 8-19 away) pay a visit to the New Orleans Hornets (18-34, 8-15 home) at New Orleans Arena in New Orleans, LA at 8:05 ET.

The posted total at Bookmaker Sportsbook is 192½ for this contest with the current odds on the ‘over’ set at -110.

The Blazers are coming off of a 117-104 loss to the Miami Heat in South Beach last night where they allowed Miami to shoot an unconscious 58.1 percent (43-for-74) while permitting LeBron James to make NBA history by becoming the first player ever to score at least 30 points and shoot at least 60 percent in six consecutive games!

Shabby defense has been nothing new for Portland this season as it is ranked 21st in points against at 99.7 per game and 27th in field goal percentage allowed at 46.6 percent, but the defense has been playing even below those sub-par standards over the last six games.

The Blazers have gone ‘over’ in six consecutive games with the defense being an even bigger contributor to that steak than the offense. And that is saying something because the offense scored at least 100 points in five of those games and 99 points in the other, led by Portland’s Rookie of the Year candidate Damian Lillard, who actually outscored LeBron 33-30 last night.

But the defense has indeed been giving up points faster than the offense has scored them, allowing an ungodly 107.8 points per game over those last six games and yielding a horrendous 52.3 percent field goal percentage in the last five contests.

Furthermore, the Blazers have been a team that has tended to go ‘over’ when playing with no rest, as it is 15-6 the last 21 times that Portland has played the second game of a back-to-back.

Now the Hornets are not a high scoring team, ranking just 25th in the league with 94.0 points per game, but the Portland defense has been so bad that even Orlando scored 110 points against it when the Magic snapped their 12-game losing streak on Sunday. Besides, the New Orleans offense has been better since Eric Gordon returned after shattering his ACL after only nine games last season.
New Orleans even put up 105 points without Gordon on Monday in a win in Detroit, as the Hornets have been easing him back by resting him when the Hornets have been playing the second game of back-to-backs. He will be back in the lineup tonight.

These teams have played once so far this season with the Blazers winning 95-94 at home back in December. That game actually did go ‘over’ what was then a low posted total of 185½ as it came before Gordon came back for New Orleans and before the Portland defense got into its current rut.

Look for each team to exceed its total from that first meeting and for Portland to play its seventh straight ‘over’ on Wednesday.
