It’s a smaller slate on Sunday as we finish another week of NBA Expert Picks. For today's pick of the day, our capper will go over Pelicans vs. Thunder game.

  Pelicans vs Thunder

  Chesapeake Arena, Oklahoma City, OK
7:00 pm ET

We have seen a good 20 games from all NBA teams and now is the time you can start to tell a lot about what these teams’ identities and their play styles are. That can really help handicapping the NBA. While these two teams are still going through some growing pains and rotation adjustments, generally we know what to expect.

What we can expect from these two teams is generally they haven’t been that bad on defense. However, something that helps us is their pace of play. Both teams are averaging over 98 possessions per game, which both rank in the top 10 in a pace of play this season.

The NBA Odds of just 213 ½ points for the total in this one is too low. Considering both teams play fast and with Jrue Holiday back for the Pelicans, it’s hard to argue with the Pels being a team on the rise. They had a slow start, but they have won five of their last eight games and are starting to look competent on both ends of the court.

The Thunder have been pretty good at home this season and the over has ended up cashing because of it. Oklahoma City is averaging over 111 points per game when playing at home this season and over their last five games things have gotten better on offense, but worse on defense.

OKC is averaging 115.4 points per game over their last five games, but they have allowed over 110 points in those five. They have scored at least 126 points in two of those games and after their most recent home domination of the Wizards, I like them to continue that this evening against New Orleans.

The Pelicans have not been great on the road on offense over the season, but as I mentioned earlier, with Holiday back that should improve their offense overall on the road. When Tyreke Evans gets back soon it will be even better. However, it’s already started. New Orleans has allowed 115 points per game in their last four home games while scoring 113.5 points in that same road stretch. Look for similar scoring from both teams tonight making the over the valuable NBA pick.
