San Antonio travels to Dallas in what is the NBA Marquee Matchup of the night. Check inside this betting preview article our pick as Spurs are a 3-point favorite tonight.
San Antonio Spurs vs. Dallas Mavericks 8:35 ET TNT
These two have split a pair of home court decisions this season with the Spurs prevailing (101-100) on their home court, while Dallas emerged with a (99-93) victory on this floor. Each of those games saw the Spurs be hampered by a combination of injuries to their key cogs Leonard, Parker, Duncan and Ginobili. For tonight, however, Ginobili is expected to return from an ankle injury, making the Spurs at full strength for one of the few times this season, which is why NBA odds have made them road favorite for this one. Look for them to take advantage in a battle of 2 teams headed opposite directions.
These teams are currently jockeying for position in the Western Conference playoff queue. Entering tonight’s game, Dallas is 44-27 SU, trailing the Spurs by 2 games in the loss column for the 6th spot in the playoffs. Must note the equal motivation for San Antonio, as they are just 2 ½ games behind Houston for the No. 3 spot in the playoff position. It is current form, however, which is the deciding factor in this contest.
The Mavs went 3-1 SU ATS out of the All-Star gate. Since that time, however, they have gone 4-8 SU ATS. They enter tonight off an 11 point home loss to Memphis on March 20th, followed by a 6 point loss at Phoenix on Sunday. Note that they were favored in each of those contests. The Rajon Rondo experience has backfired for the Mavs, as he has been at odds with HC Carlisle since shortly after he arrived. The failure of those two to be on the same page has filtered through the ranks causing a lack of cohesion and chemistry.
No such issues pervade the San Antonio locker room. Following a 0-4 SU ATS start to the 2nd half of the season, the Spurs are putting on their usual 2nd half surge. Entering tonight, they are runs of 10-2 SU, 9-3 ATS. Veteran HC Popovich has them playing with great unity, especially on the offensive end where they have scored 100 or more points in each of those 12 games. With Ginobili returning from an ankle injury, the offense will only become more potent.
Place your NBA pick on the road with a San Antonio team who is moving the opposite direction of their host and who is motivated by the chance at a Top 4 finish in the West.
