The Clippers have not been playing their best basketball by any stretch of the imagination, but we still like their chances of covering the large number at home over the Jazz. Check out our NBA odds preview inside.
The Clippers are currently laying 12 points at essentially every major sportsbook that we've run over. They're huge favorites in the NBA odds for this home tilt with the young Jazz.
As for the total, it keeps wavering between 203.5 and 204. Neither team has been all that good defensively, and we know LA can really bring it on the offensive end when they're in the groove.
Los Angeles Clippers
At one point in the season the Clippers were flying high at 16-5 on the year, but they've since gone 4-6 over their last 10 games to drop to 20-11 overall. More recently, they've dropped three of their last four contests ahead of tonight's tipoff.
Their struggles were exposed in a big way during their last taste of action on Saturday afternoon. LA was outclassed at home by Toronto, losing 110-98. It was a rough day at the office for Chris Paul, who was held to 10 points on 3-of-12 shooting, and Blake Griffin and J.J. Redick's combined 45 points weren't enough. DeAndre Jordan pulled down 20 rebounds yet only totaled four points in all.
There's no doubt the Clippers are in a state of disarray at the moment, but these ups-and-downs happen throughout the course of the season. This LA team will be just fine and will be competing in the Western Conference playoffs. We're not worried about Doc Rivers' team - they have more than enough talent and experience to figure it out and start dominating again.
The Jazz are actually in the middle of one of their best stretches of the season. They've won four of their last five games in all, beating the Heat, Magic, Grizzlies and 76ers while losing to the Hornets. Wins over the likes of Memphis and Miami shouldn't go unnoticed, with the team now sitting at 10-20.
Utah had little trouble with Philadelphia back on Saturday, winning 88-71 at home. The Jazz held the visiting 76ers to a paltry 32.4 percent shooting overall and 19.2 percent from beyond the arc. Derrick Favors stood out most for Utah, as he completely dominated in practically every way - he had 17 points, 15 rebounds, three assists, five blocks and three steals. Enes Kanter also had a double-double, while Trevor Booker came up with a 14/5/3 line off the bench.
Unfortunately for the Jazz, they're going to be without the services of shooting guard Alec Burks, as he's already been ruled out. Rodney Hood stepped in and started in the latest win over the 76ers and figures to get another chance at the job this evening. He had four points (1-of-8), five rebounds and two assists against Philadelphia. With Burks out, it's going to be up to Favors, Kanter, Trey Burke and Gordon Hayward to pick up the slack.
This simply does not set up as a good spot for the Jazz, even in spite of the fact they're been playing as well as they have all season long.
Facing off against the Clippers inside Staples Center is hard enough, let alone when they're raring to bounce back after such a rough patch of play. LA should be highly motivated to right the ship here, and what better opponent than the Jazz, who are just 5-11 on the road this season.
Look for CP3 and the Clippers to run away from the road team in this spot. It always makes you a little nervous to lay this many points for your NBA pick, but this is a situation in which it makes sense. Expect an LA blowout when everything is said and done this evening.
