Return of Lebron to South Beach
The Miami Heat will host the Cleveland Cavaliers on Christmas Day with the opening tip slated for 5:00 PM ET. There were no lines posted on our NBA odds at the time of this writing. My approximate estimate on the opening line shows Cleveland as a 4.5 point favorite, and the total at or around 198.0. This will be the first meeting of the season between these teams, and it certainly will come with much anticipation. It marks the return of the Cavaliers Lebron James to Miami. James spent the past 4-seaons with the Heat, leading them to four consecutive NBA Finals, and two world championships.
The Cleveland Cavaliers are coming off a 125-104 win over the Minnesota Timberwolves on Tuesday, and covered as a huge 14.0 point favorite. It was the 3rd win in a row for the Cavaliers, and was the completion of a 5-game in 9-day home stand that saw them go 4-1. Cleveland has gone 6-5 on the road this season, and failed to cover in 7 of those 11-games.
The Miami Heat are coming off a disheartening 91-87 overtime home loss on Tuesday to the 4-23 Philadelphia 76ers. They squandered a 15-point halftime lead in that contest, and it was their 6th loss in their last 7-games at home. Miami is now just 5-10 this season at the American Airlines Arena. The Heat have also gone 4-9 in their last 13-games overall, and has seen 8 of the last 11 go under the total. In Miami’s defense, it was the 5th consecutive game they were without their leading scorer Chris Bosh who averages 21.6 points and 8.2 rebounds per game. He’s been sidelined by a strained calf muscle and his status on Christmas Day remains questionable.
