Our resident NBA handicapping professional covers Wednesday’s game between Washington and Cleveland. His betting preview article on this contest clarifies the uncertainties surrounding an otherwise meaningless contest.
Regular Season Finale between Wizards and Cavaliers
The Cleveland Cavaliers will host the Washington Wizards tonight at 8:05 PM ET. According to the NBA betting odds, Cleveland is an 8.5 point favorite, and the posted total is 194.0. This will be the fourth meeting of the season between these teams, Cleveland has gone 2-1 SU&ATS in the first three, and two of the three went over the total.
Tonight’s game has virtually no meaning to either team. Cleveland is locked in as the #2 seed in the Eastern Conference, and will face Boston in the first round of the playoffs. Washington will be the #5 seed in the East, and will face either Toronto or Chicago in the conference quarterfinals.
Depleted Rosters for Tonight
By all accounts, the Washington Wizards will rest key players Nene, John Wall, Bradley Beal, Otto Porter, and Drew Gooden for tonight’s game.
Lebron James has sat out his team’s regular season finale in each of the previous seven seasons, and it would hard to fathom that won’t be the case once again in 2015. Star point guard Kyrie Irving is nursing a nagging hip injury and is listed as doubtful.
At this juncture with nothing at stake, both teams primary goal tonight will be getting to the playoffs unscathed from injury.
The best bet in these types of scenarios is no bet at all. After all, this will pretty much have the feel of a NBA preseason game tonight, and backups will receive the vast majority of playing time. I don’t expect this contest to be entertaining or pretty to watch. I’ll have the tiniest of leans toward a low scoring affair, and that will be included in my NBA picks for Wednesday.
NBA Pick: Play on Washington and Cleveland to go Under 194.0 at The Greek.
