The No.3 seed Philadelphia 76ers head to the Big Apple with the series poised delicately 1-1 after the pair split the first two games. Can the Sixers build on the momentum of game 2?

It was a stunning performance by the visitors and a richly deserved victory. On the flipside, the Sixers were out of sorts, underwhelming and lacking in every aspect of the game. So much so, the boos rang out as fans showed their disgust and disappointment in no uncertain terms.

[/]{"component": "embedHTML", "code": "

Sixers fans booing their own team for two straight quarters as they lose game 1 at home #NBAPlayoffs2019 pic.twitter.com/t3FxPrnj6e
— 💫🤠💫 (@EsoheO) April 13, 2019
\n\n"}[/]

Well, not everyone was upset of course…..

[/]{"component": "embedHTML", "code": "

Me watching the Sixers and Raptors lose Game 1: pic.twitter.com/fNoG1Fm0XH
— Sighduck (@StevevonHorn) April 14, 2019
\n\n"}[/]

Monday night, the Sixers flipped the script on the Nets and bounced back with an impressive 145-123 win. It was a lively, energetic and determined Philadelphia –and, dare we say it, angry – that took to the court on that night to the delight of home fans, never more so than in the third quarter in which they practically set the house on fire and ran away with the game.

In some part, one could argue the Nets played a part in their own demise on Monday night by taking the foot off the gas. They rolled out of the locker room with the verve and swagger of a flat tire and proceeded to deflate miserably before all our eyes.

Importantly, the Sixers came to the good on the NBA odds board as the -8.5 (closing odds) home favorites, covering with plenty units to spare and re-establishing themselves as the team to beat in this series.

[/]{"component": "embedHTML", "code": "

Ben Simmons (18 PTS, 10 REB & 12 AST) recorded his second career Playoffs triple-double, as the 76ers recorded the most points ever in an #NBAPlayoffs game in franchise history to win Game 2 🔔 pic.twitter.com/canqniIkdK
— NBA UK (@NBAUK) April 16, 2019
\n\n"}[/]

Brooklyn Nets Slight Home Underdogs

Going into game 3 the hosts Brooklyn Nets are found trading as the slight home underdogs, anywhere from +3 to +3.5 against the spread depending on your choice top-rated sportsbook. Being dubbed as the home underdog is a bit of a slight seeing as the Nets did steal home advantage in Philly on game 1. However, then again, the NBA odds could have been much worse given what transpired in game 2. In the context of that game, giving the Nets merely three points doesn’t seem nearly enough.

It remains to be seen how rattled the Nets are after Monday’s crushing loss. Whether they can bounce back and regroup on their turf. It goes without saying Philly will be looking to reclaim home-court advantage in the Big Apple and if they are anywhere nearly as intense as they were in game 2 the Nets have cause for concern.

To be fair, up to the start of the second half the Nets were well in the game trailing by barely a bucket. The manner in which the Sixers erupted to reel off a 21-2 run took everyone’s breath away and turned what looked to be a competitive affair into a beat down on a dime all of sudden. Must have been some rousing locker room speech.

The Nets must keep in mind that for about six quarters (spanning game 1 and half of game 2) they were well-matched and giving the No.3 seed Sixers a good run for their money. They are still in the series with every chance to forge ahead, making them a tempting choice for NBA bettors to consider.

Not surprisingly, the public is tipping the scale in favor of the Philadelphia Sixers with about 53% of consensus betting going towards the road favorites. There’s definitely the element of a knee-jerk reaction following game 2 for many NBA bettors – how can one overlook what was a franchise-making performance in game 2. That said, the Sixers really should build on the momentum of that game and take control of a series that was always cornered in their camp in market estimation. Considering they’re merely laying three points or thereabouts, it just seems a bit of a steal bet as well.

NBA Picks: Sixers -3.5 (-105) - Heritage
