Let's analyze futures odds for the Raptors which made it all the way to the Eastern Conference Finals in 2015-2016 and were only two wins away from knocking off the defending champion Cavaliers. However, the East has gotten better and Toronto has stayed neutral, can they make their way back to the Eastern Conference Finals with 50 win totals again?

 Offseason Signings

Basically the one and only signing the Raptors had room to make this offseason was inking DeMar DeRozan to a $25 million per year contract over the next five seasons. After that, they were pretty tapped out. While DeRozan is a huge part of this team’s identity on both ends of the court, his contract has made it so Toronto has almost gotten worse by not getting better.

I do really love the signing of Jared Sullinger though. This team needed a four man who could rebound, play center and occasionally hit a three-pointer. He is also nice insurance to Jonas Valanciunas, who has shown he can be injury-prone.

However, there is no way Sullinger’s signing makes up for the loss of backup rim protection in Bismack Biyombo. On top of that, outside of Corey Joseph, their second unit is pretty much trash. They are going to lose a lot of leads against deeper teams late in games, or their starters are going to be playing a lot of minutes. Remember that when you check the best sportsbooks and the NBA odds they offer.

Season Wins Outlook

Toronto has been either right below, or like last year well above 50 wins over the last three seasons with this core. However, the East has gotten a lot better and while last season was promising for Toronto, I think they fall to 48 or 49 wins this season like they have in the two seasons prior to ’15-’16.

For starters, their division has gotten a lot better. Boston, Philadelphia, and New York all got a lot better compared to last season and the Nets are the only true bottom feeder. Toronto went 14-2 against their division last season and that is not going to happen again with all the improvements from the three above-mentioned teams.

On top of that, the other two Eastern Conference divisions look pretty good too. It’s hard to make an NBA pick with the Eastern Conference playoff picture 3-8 right now. As I see it, the Raptors might be the third seed, or they might be the seventh. It could be that close to the final four or five playoff spots.

That would only mean there are a bunch of teams between 42 and 48 wins next season in the Eastern Conference. The Raptors are going to be a part of that bunch and I don’t see them getting above 50 wins. One injury to one of their starters would create a tough situation for an already shallow team.
