One of the best inter-conference games this evening is the Suns & Wizards hooking up in downtown Washington, DC. NBA odds have the Wizards as +1 home underdogs in this one, with a total of 212.

Injury & Absence Affecting the NBA Odds
Marcin Gortat will miss this game for the Wizards and likely another as he is dealing with his mother’s illness. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the Gortats, but that’s not the only guy that could be out for this game. Both Markieff Morris and Tyson Chandler missed the Suns’ last game against the Pistons on Wednesday, and while it was Morris’ first game missed after playing in eight straight, Chandler has missed the last several games for the Suns.

We already know that Gortat will be out, but if we find out that either or both Morris and Chandler will be out tonight too, the Wizards present a nice value as slight home underdogs.

Washington has finally been starting to play better, and Randy Wittman listened to my advice to start playing smaller. Washington has been starting Otto Porter and Jared Dudley at the 3 and 4 for the last few games, and even though it didn’t culminate into a win against the Lakers, it could easily turn into one tonight. The Suns have some talent, but I doubt anyone is going to pull a Kobe Bryant and completely take over the game. The Suns have a tough backcourt, but that backcourt has also played a lot of minutes, and both Eric Bledsoe and Brandon Knight are prone to duds every once in a while. Now in the middle of a long road trip, I could easily see the Suns dropping one here if Chandler and Morris are both out again.

The Sharp Pick
On top of the Wizards newfound small lineup, they are probably still pretty upset that they lost to a team who previously only had two wins on the young season. However, like I mentioned above, the Wizards were looking better up until this past Wednesday. Washington had covered their last two games before the SU loss to the Lakers, and with that loss fresh on their minds, I see the Wizards taking command in this game on Friday night.

As long as Washington can shut down one of the Suns’ guards, this win is in the bag for them. While he hasn’t been great on defense to start the season, Porter is a very capable defender, and it would not surprise me to see him either start, or finish the game guarding Bledsoe. If the Wizards cross-match in this one, I think it gives them some added value at home in the NBA odds.

When playing the Eastern Conference this season, the Suns are giving up more than 105 points per game, and while Washington has been worse giving up 110 points per game to the West, I expect their defense to improve on that slightly at home. Phoenix is only 3-3 ATS on the road this season, and while Washington has been a great fade to open the season as I projected back in early October, I think the turnaround is starting for the Wiz. Ease on down the road tonight with Washington for your NBA picks.
