It looks like to be a tough defensive battle when the Spurs travel to take on the Jazz. Can the Jazz pull the upset and become your NBA pick for the game?

Odds makers have made the Spurs a -3 favorite like at Pinnacle -110. For one of my NBA picks, I am going to go against my favorite team in the league and back Utah plus the points. The Jazz went to overtime with the Warriors recently, a game they should have won, so I look for them to come into this game with a lot of confidence.

Utah Jazz Overview
Utah has won seven of their last ten games and defensively allows just 95.9 points per game, which ranks them second in the NBA. They also rank first in opponent field goals made per game and opponent assists per game, as well as second in opponent total rebounds per game and points in the paint. There is no denying the identity of Utah, slow paced and focused on putting a premium on defense and efficiency.

Offensively, they can be really sluggish at times averaging just 80.6 field goal attempts per game which ranks last in the league, but they can also be decently effective ranking in the middle of the league in most categories; all this highlighted by shooting 35.7% from distance which makes them rank 11th in the league.

The last time they hosted the Spurs, they played about as poorly as they could, shooting just under 43% overall and a horrible 17% from distance. Tonight should be a different story as they are playing their best basketball of the season and they catch the Spurs in a good spot with Golden State looming Thursday.

San Antonio Spurs Sneak Peek
The Spurs rank first in the NBA odds boards allowing just 92.6 points per game and they also rank first defensively in opponent shooting efficiency and effective field goal percentage. Along with Golden State, the Spurs are the best team in the league and I think this time of two-team dominance in the league like the old Lakers-Celtics teams of past years.

Unfortunately this season though the Spurs and Warriors are in the same conference. Last time San Antonio visited Utah, they were lights out shooting 48% from the floor and 50% from distance. That will be a hard performance to duplicate that was combined with a poor performance from the Jazz that led to a blowout.

Statistically, the Spurs rank in the top three of the league (on both sides of the ball) in the most important categories so I won’t rattle on about their statistics. My main point is: with how they played last time in Utah, you would think this line would be set much higher. Odds makers don’t tend to give away free money though and this is a good spot to grab the points with a Jazz team that is playing very well and as mentioned catch the Spurs prior to a big game.
