Nets at 76ers Game 2

Kenny Atkinson deserves a lot of credit for the Nets’ Game 1 win on the road over the weekend. His new rotation which includes a small ball lineup of Jared Dudley at center completely threw the Sixers and Brett Brown in a loop.

Joel Embiid, who is also hobbled somewhat with a knee issue, was rendered useless against a fast paced and spread out offensive attack from the Nets. Other than Jimmy Butler, no one had a good game for the Sixers and they also had a ton of trouble stopping the Nets’ guards.

The other issue for the Sixers is they couldn’t hit the broad side of a barn from deep. Embiid looked like Brown told him not to shoot threes, while the rest of the Sixers put up brick after brick from deep. This was one of the concerns for the Sixers coming into the playoffs as to whether they had enough shooting.

On the flip side, the Nets’ small lineup provides way too much shooting for the Sixers to cover. If the Nets can force them to go small again, it plays to the advantage of Brooklyn. With Embiid hurt, it also takes way the one trump card the Sixers have over the Nets.

For these reasons, the Nets taking eight points again is a bargain to be had. Even if the Sixers shoot better from outside and Embiid drops 25 points, the Nets have enough shooting and guard play to keep this one close, or upset the Sixers in a second straight game.

Clippers at Warriors Game 2

While the total has been hit hard on this game, driving it up from 230 ½ to 233 or even 234 in some shops, the value has been bet out of this early line.

However, the first half total has not seen as big of a jump, which might be opening up some value on a line that is still under 120 points at most shops.

The Dubs nearly put up 70 first half points against LA in Game 1 of this series and there seems to be nothing stopping them from doing it again. LA has no rim protection and that is a death sentence against this Golden State team. If the Warriors are hitting shots, the Clippers have to close out quickly, which is going to leave wide open driving lanes to either get a layup, get to the free throw line, or get a wide open three pointer from one of their shooters.

Golden State shot nearly 47 percent from three-point land in Game 1 and even though I doubt that happens again, I do think they could stay hot in the first half of this one.
