We split a pair of NBA Picks on the short slate for Sunday, evening our record over the first week of the season. Monday’s NBA card is a good one, with eight games on the slate, and I have found my two best bets for you, the Sportsbook Review faithful!

The Sixers and Pistons  both have playoff aspirations in the Eastern Conference, and games like this one early in the season are going to go a long way in deciding the bottom half of the East.

The Sixers are coming off getting embarrassed against the Raptors on Saturday, while the Pistons moved to 2-1 SU after their road win against the Knicks. I expect this one to be a close game with a spread of -3 ½ in favor of Detroit on the NBA odds board, but the better play might be the total of 214.

The Sixers have been playing with great speed to start the season. Check out this video of their second game against the Celtics, and notice how many times they are running out on misses, or shooting the ball within the first 10 seconds of the shot clock.

This is how the Sixers are going to play. They currently rank 5th in the league in pace to start the season at 104.2 possessions per game, and you can bet they’ll want to run against the Pistons.

While Detroit has not being playing very fast, their offensive rating is currently top 10 in the NBA to start the season, and their defense ranks in the bottom half of the league with the Sixers.

If this game gets going fast, the over is a fine bargain at 214. I expect Ben Simmons and Markelle Fultz to put some pressure on Avery Bradley and company tonight, so lock in the over before the total goes up some more.

Hornets vs. Bucks

The Hornets will likely sneak into the Eastern Conference playoff picture this season once they are fully healthy. The East is so bad and the Hornets are pretty good at home, so reason dictates that they should be a playoff team in a poor conference.

The Bucks are a lock to make the playoffs. I was talking to a friend of mine who is a Bucks fan over the weekend, and he told me he thinks they are the #2 overall seed in the East this season with the Gordon Hayward injury.

That could very well happen, but we are a long way away from that going down. What we do have is an interesting matchup tonight with the Hornets coming to town. With Michael Kidd-Gilchrist out again, and Nicolas Batum out for the first couple months of the season, the Hornets are extremely shallow on the wing right now.

Against a team with Giannis Antetokounmpo playing like an MVP, and along with Khris Middleton and Tony Snell, the Bucks create matchup nightmares for the Hornets without their two best wing defenders.

If Dwight Howard gets into foul trouble, the Hornets are toast because Cody Zeller is also out on Monday night. Simply put, the -6 ½ for the Bucks might as well be -10 ½ because they are going to dominate this game.

The Hornets are not a great road team. Since the start of last season, the Hornets are 17-22-3 ATS on the road, and they are 9-12-1 ATS as a road underdog. On top of that, Charlotte has lost two in a row SU and ATS against the Bucks, and I see them making it three in a row after Monday night.
