For today's NBA preview we look to two of the better defensive teams in the league with the Memphis Grizzlies and the Miami Heat. While Miami didn't really add any new pieces the Grizzlies picked up Chandler Parsons, and his bad knee. Will these two tough defenses continue their winning ways?

Memphis Grizzlies

Last season Memphis won 42 games and made the playoffs for the sixth time in a row only to be swept by the San Antonio Spurs. I'm still a bit surprised they let go of head coach Dave Joerger who I thought was a nice fit with this Memphis squad. However, I like how they picked up David Fizdale from the Miami Heat who as an assistant is well known throughout the league as a solid coach. Because Memphis is a defensive minded team first he is the perfect fit for this organization. It seems like it's been forever that we have had this lineup of Mike Conley, Mark Gasol, and Zach Randolph in the mix and this year they picked up a nice addition in Chandler Parsons. Last season they had some serious health issues especially with Conley and Gasol but now that they are healthy oddsmakers have put them down to win a couple more games. This breaks my heart to set but I'm actually going to go under with Memphis as  they are not particularly deep which got exploited a bit last season despite the fact they made the playoffs. I believe they are a year older but not a year better.

Miami Heat

Last season Miami won 48 games beating Charlotte and then losing to Toronto in the Eastern conference playoffs coming in as the third seed. As we can see by the number this team's expectations have been tempered a lot this year with oddsmakers having them down over 10 wins from last season. It makes sense considering Dwayne Wade, Luol Deng, and Joe Johnson are gone and Chris Bosh is almost definitely gone. So what does a Goran Dragic and Hassan Whiteside team look like? Well, according to the oddsmakers not much. I believe certain young guys will step up like Justice Winslow and Tyler, Johnson and the pick of Dion Waiters are ok but at the end of the day this team is not very deep and Eric Spoelstra will have his work cut out for him. The biggest issue for me in regards to the depth of this team is that in order for them to get over this total everybody will have to stay completely healthy the entire season, and that is unlikely to happen. They will play their guts out on defense but in the end, Pat Riley will need to make some better moves to improve this team if they plan on going back to the playoffs, better think twice with this NBA pick.
