With the Minnesota Timberwolves coming off a back to back things might get difficult for them as they visit the Hornets. Oddsmakers have come out making Charlotte a decent favorite but surprisingly less than double digits. Do they know something that we don't?

Minnesota Timberwolves

Minnesota lost to Charlotte at home earlier this season 115-108 and odds makers have made Minnesota the underdog in this spot at about the same amount they lost that contest. That is a bit surprising considering that Minnesota is coming off a back to back while Charlotte is coming off of rest, on top of the fact they have a decent winning record with Minnesota going the opposite direction. Still, this is a talented Minnesota team and they can play a lot better than they did in that first matchup as a shot just 42.7% from the field with Charlotte shooting 54% which is well above their average.

Although the Timberwolves have quite a losing record they been rather competitive over the past week and I expect for them to keep this game reasonably close. Charlotte also shot over 45% from beyond the arc, but Minnesota should be able to defend from that area a lot better than they did in their first matchup as they are allowing opponents to shoot just 33.9% from distance. Offensively the Timberwolves are still struggling but they still rank 14th in the league in shooting efficiency and they have enough athletes to hang in with the Hornets in this contest.

Charlotte Hornets

Charlotte sits at 11-8 on the season and has won three out of their last four games. Their offensive numbers are nothing to shout about as they are currently just shooting 44% from the field and 35% from distance which ranks them 22nd and 14th in the league respectively. They have been good in moving the ball in Stephen Clifford's offense averaging 24 assists per game which rank them fifth, however, Minnesota has been good in not allowing extra passes ranking sixth in the league in opponent assists per game.

On the other side of the ball, Charlotte has been decent but they still allow opponents to shoot 34.5% from beyond the arc which ranks them just in the middle of the league. As mentioned, the point of contention will most likely be from beyond the arc as along with their high opponent three-points shooting percentage they also rank 29th in the league in opponent three-pointers made per game. I anticipate Minnesota to exploit this aspect to keep them in this contest. Charlotte should win but this game will probably go to the wire.

Minnesota Timberwolves vs Charlotte Hornets

Oddsmakers have Minnesota as a +6.5 underdog in this spot and for my NBA pick, I will back them plus the points. This is an athletic team that is much better than their current record and they should give the Hornets all they want tonight.
