We split a pair of NBA Picks yesterday, and here are the best bets for the short-slated NBA this Sunday. Even though there are only five games on today, there is still value to be had in the NBA Odds.

Mavericks vs. Kings
Believe it or not, this game has a lot of importance for both of these teams. The Mavs are sitting on the outside looking into the playoff race in the Western Conference, while the Kings are in need of a loss more than a win in order to give themselves a better chance at keeping their draft pick. With that in mind, the NBA Odds for this one favor the Kings at -2, with a total that sits anywhere from 216 ½ to 218 ½.

The Mavs are also getting hurt at the worst time, when it’s late in the season and they are making a run at an increasingly difficult Western Conference. They have already lost Chandler Parsons for the year, and while they should have a rested Dirk Nowitzki back for this game after he took a night off a few days ago, the Mavs will also be without Deron Williams tonight. Williams injured his abdomen and will miss the Mavs’ next two games, and going against Rajon Rondo in his revenge game, that’s not going to be good.

Williams doesn’t get credit for it, but he isn’t a bad defender. However, his replacement, JJ Barea is, and he is going to have a hard time slowing down Rondo in this one. On top of that, while Williams’ absence does hurt on defense, it helps slightly on offense. The Mavs’ Offenisve Rating actually goes up with Williams off the court, and with Barea in the lineup, their opponent’s Offensive Rating goes from 104.6 to 111.4.

The Mavs come into this one cashing the over in three of their last four games, and since the beginning of February, the Mavs are 15-7 cashing the over. With the Mavs giving up 117 points per game in their last five games, and with the Kings giving up over 108 per game when playing at home this season, look for the over to cash in this one, despite it being an early afternoon start in Sacramento.

Rockets vs. Pacers
Another game with big playoff implications for both teams is the Rockets and Pacers hooking up from Bankers Life Fieldhouse in Indianapolis tonight. The Rockets come into this one as a +2 underdog, but it’s once again the total that I have my eye on. Since it opened the total has dropped from 213½ all the way to 210½, and I am following the movement and going with the under.

For starters, the Pacers are 10-5 this season cashing the under on the second night of a back to back. Even more intriguing is how well they have played on defense lately at home. If you take away the game where Oklahoma City came in and dropped 115 points on them, in five of their last six home games, the Pacers are giving up fewer than 90 points in those give games.

The Rockets haven’t been great on the road cashing the over either. In their last four road games, the under is 3-1, and while the Pacers aren’t the most formidable opponent, they do tend to hold down their opponents at home. Indiana is giving up less than 99 points per game when at home this season, and if they can hold the Rockets below 100 points in this one, the under is surely the play. The under is now 3-1 in the Rockets last four overall games, while the under has cashed in eight of the Pacers’ last 11 games for those who made them their NBA Pick.
