The Spurs come into Sacramento on a three-game winning streak while the Kings have lost two in a row. San Antonio is a decent road favorite in the NBA Odds, but is there any value on backing Sacramento?

San Antonio Spurs

San Antonio is averaging 101.2 points per game but allowing just 96.1 which ranks them third in the league in scoring defense. They have righted the ship and look to be heading back in the right direction after a couple of bumpy games the last couple of weeks. We are now starting to see them get back to their old selves controlling tempo, being efficient from the floor, and playing great defense. Currently the Spurs are only shooting 44.3% from the field overall which ranks 17th, however, they are hitting 39.6% from distance which ranks them second in the league. This could be a little bit of a tough spot for them though because Sacramento, like San Antonio, has been going at a snail's pace and should be able to make this game interesting. In their matchup earlier this season in San Antonio, I thought Sacramento did a nice job in their eight-point loss but they simply turned over the ball too many times. San Antonio is still allowing opponents to shoot over 49% on their two-point shots which will improve as the season goes on, but this game has all the makings of going down to the wire.

 Sacramento Kings

Sacramento is averaging 99.8 points per game and currently on a two-game losing streak dropping their last two to the Lakers and Portland respectively. Head coach Dave Joerger is very familiar with the Spurs having played them four times last year, and losing all four, at Memphis.  However, he should be encouraged by the matchups tonight as statistically the Kings are not that far off from the Spurs. Their pace at only 81.9 attempts per game should help them control some tempo and their overall efficiency is not bad across the board shooting 44.6% from the field which is a bit better than San Antonio's 44.3%. For the most part, these teams line up pretty evenly but the point of contention will from beyond the arc where the Spurs are hitting at a high rate as mentioned. The Kings though have been ok in this aspect allowing opponents to shoot just 34.3% from range, and the fact the Spurs only put up 20 attempts per game ranking them 28th in the league leads me to believe Sacramento can do enough to mitigate this tonight.

 NBA odds

Currently, oddsmakers have Sacramento is a +5.5 underdog across the board. For my NBA pick, I'm going to back the Kings in this spot to stay within the number and take this game to the buzzer. Great matchups across the board including depth and the coaches.
