Two of the more up-tempo teams clash tonight when the Chicago Bulls visit the Portland Trailblazers. Oddsmakers have made Portland a small home favorite and seem to be coming in with some momentum. Can Chicago keep up?

Chicago Bulls

Chicago has won two games in a row and is averaging 106.2 points per game while allowing 100.8 which ranks them ninth in scoring defense.  That stat is a bit surprising considering that Chicago puts up on average 87.7 attempts per game which ranks them sixth in the league, but it seems their core of veterans has had an impact on that end.  Outside their tempo they have been just decent percentage wise offensively across the board shooting just 44.6% from the field ranking them 17th in the league along with ranking 16th in shooting efficiency.  They are doing two things quite well though offensively averaging almost 23 assists per game which rank them ninth and hitting the boards hard averaging 56 total rebounds per game which rank fifth. If anything this is good reason to back them tonight because they should dominate the glass. Currently, Portland ranks last in the NBA in opponent rebounds per game, and although they are always tough at home this should be a tight matchup tonight.

 Portland Trailblazers

Portland also comes in on a two-game winning streak and are averaging 108.7 points per game which rank fourth in the NBA. Apparently, they got quite the thrashing at half time from head coach Terry Stotts in their game versus Denver in which they played a lackluster first half. I don't think that type of scolding is going to work in this matchup though as Chicago I believe presents some matchup problems for them especially in the paint.  Portland has been very efficient offensively ranking fifth and seventh in the league in efficiency and effective field goal percentage but their defense gives me pause. Their percentages are not horrific but they allow a lot of shots per game allowing opponents to get up just over 89 which ranks 27th in the league. This plays right into the wheelhouse of Chicago and unless Portland shoots particularly hot from distance and think the Bulls have every chance to not only take this to the wire but win outright.

NBA odds

Oddsmakers have Chicago as a +3.5 underdog across the board.  For my NBA pick, I will take them plus the points to at worst take this game to the final shot but don't be surprised if they win straight up.
