With both teams coming into this matchup off of two losses in a row both the Detroit Pistons and San Antonio Spurs are looking to get out of their funk. San Antonio are decent favorites at home in the NBA Odds.

Detroit Pistons

Detroit has lost two games in a row and are currently averaging 98.1 points per game while allowing 97.4 which ranks them 25th and fifth in the league respectively. Until Reggie Jackson gets back this team could struggle a bit but I think they're just getting a few too many points today against the Spurs.  San Antonio just doesn't yet seem as sharp as they were last year and until they get Tony Parker back this a good spot to fade them. Detroit has been less than stellar on the offensive end shooting just 43.3% from the field which ranks them 25th in the league, but they are getting some good tempo at 87.2 field-goal attempts per game. With Andre Drummond in the middle you know they're going to rebound the ball well but it is their defense that I think keeps them in this game. Currently, the Pistons rank fourth and fifth in the league in opponent effective field-goal percentage and opponent overall shooting percentage respectively. I think they'll be able to get some things done on that end before tonight to help them stay within this number although pulling the upset will be a tall task indeed.

 San Antonio Spurs

San Antonio is averaging 102.1 points per game and allowing just 97.6 which ranks them 20th and sixth in the league respectively. It is not often that we see San Antonio on this type of spot where there is the potential for them to lose three games in a row. It would seem that they would come out and just roll Detroit and continue on getting back to their old selves. Currently, San Antonio ranks last in the league in points in the paint averaging just 35 per game. As well, they are shooting just 43.7% from the field which ranks 21st in the league and although they have been good for distance percentage wise they are only averaging 21.5 attempts which rank 27th in the league. Without two important guards for both of these teams in Reggie Jackson for the Pistons and Parker for the Spurs, this has all the makings of a grind out defensive battle as neither team has been allowing a lot of attempts on the other end of the floor. Look for this game to go down the last couple minutes which puts the value in my opinion on driving the points.

NBA Odds

Oddsmakers have made Detroit a +8.5 underdog like at bookmaker -110 and for my NBA pick, I'm going to back them getting the points. Although I expect San Antonio to win I think we defense being the focus tonight Detroit will make this game uncomfortably close for them.
