NBA Picks of the Day
Minnesota Timberwolves vs. Memphis Grizzlies
Memphis will look to build on a 99-93 win over Golden State when they host Minnesota as 8.5 point favorites in the NBA odds tonight. The total is resting at 184.5.
The Timberwolves were already getting killed with injuries, and now Andrei Kirilenko, who's been doing a little of everything for this team this season, is out with a quad strain.
It's been good to see Ricky Rubio get back to his old form, but that's been one of the only highlights for Minnesota as of late. The Timberwolves have lost nine of their last ten and are a dreadful 2-14 SU over their last 16 contests.
Meanwhile, Memphis has managed to go 4-2 ATS in their previous six at home.
That recent win over Golden State should also give the Grizzlies a good deal of confidence as they try to sort out their rotation following the trade. Tayshaun Prince is locked in as the starter and Memphis has already gotten some productive minutes out of Ed Davis and Austin Daye.
This is a lot of points to cover, especially for a Grizzlies team that hasn't been nearly as dominant as of late, but we believe they'll cruise past a short-handed Minnesota squad tonight. Marc Gasol and Zach Randolph should be able to contend with Nikola Pekovic, while the Grizzlies also have one of the NBA's best perimeter defenses.
With Memphis at 16-10-1 ATS at home and Minnesota at 10-12-1 ATS on the road this season, we will be adding the hosts to our NBA picks.
NBA Picks: Memphis Grizzlies -8.5
Houston Rockets vs. Sacramento Kings
The Rockets are considered 5.5-point NBA odds favorites for tonight's road game in Sacramento, but we are getting pulled in by a play on the O/U, which has been set at 216.5. Which way are we going? We have to roll with the OVER.
Folks, there's a reason this number is so high. Neither team plays a lick of defense and that means we should see no shortage of points tonight.
We know Houston will be able to score the rock – they're averaging 117.0 PPG on 51.6 percent shooting overall and 42.8 percent from three over their last five – so the only thing we're worrying about is how the Kings will do in that respect.
However, Houston has been making bad offensive teams look good all season. Over that same five-game span, the Rockets have given up 107.8 PPG, so Sacramento has a good chance of reaching the century mark as well.
At home, the Kings have been able to get the job done offensively on a much more regular basis. They've averaging 101.6 PPG in their own building and just dropped 120 on Utah last night.
These two teams are both in the top ten in PACE, with the Rockets locked in at the top spot and the Kings at #10. Houston will be pushing the tempo at all times, with James Harden driving to the rim with reckless abandon one moment and then dishing it out to a plethora of excellent shooters the next. We should be seeing a lot of three-point attempts getting hoisted up on both sides.
The OVER has gone 16-8 in Sacramento's 24 home games this season and we are liking the chances of it hitting once more. Good luck!
