The NBA slate is full for this Saturday, but there are three games that separate themselves apart from the rest, which I have keyed in on to beat the basketball betting odds.

NBA Top Picks For Saturday, January 12

Utah Jazz (19-19 SU) at Detroit Pistons (14-23 SU)

Line: Pistons -2, Over/Under 192 ½

Tip off: 7:35 PM EST

The Offense

The Jazz are good for an average of 98.5 points a night, which is 11th best in the NBA. However, they are shooing a mediocre 44.4% from the floor, which ranks 14th in the league. Meanwhile, the Pistons offense scores just over 95 points per game (95.2), which comes in at the bottom half of the league at 22nd best.

The Defense

The Pistons feature a much better defense than the Jazz, as their 96.4 points against average is 9th best in the NBA, compared to a Utah defense that is allowing opponents to score 99 points per game, which is 21st best in the league.

Betting Trends

The Jazz are 5-2 against the spread in their last seven matchups versus Central Division opponents, but they are 0-5 ATS in their last 5 games played on a Saturday.

Utah has covered the point spread in 12 of the last 16 meetings versus the Pistons.

Detroit is just 3-8 ATS in their last 11 games played at home and 0-6 against the spread in their last six versus Western Conference opponents.

The Pick

The Jazz are on the road, but I don’t see it being a disadvantage against the lowly Pistons, who are just one game above .500 at home (10-9). Utah at +2 is the right NBA betting play to make on this game.

Great Offense Meets Awful Offense

The Houston Rockets are the second highest scoring team in the league, as they are averaging 105.6 points per game on 45.9% shooting from the floor. Philadelphia ranks near the bottom at 27, with an average point total of only 92.2 points per game.

The Defense Tells A Different Story

As good as Houston’s offense is this season, that’s how bad their defense is playing, which is virtually nonexistent. The Rockets are allowing an average of 103.2 points per game, which is one of the worst in the NBA at 28th best. Philadelphia’s defense is a stingy one that gives up fewer than 97 points per game (96.7), which is good enough for 12th best in the league.

Betting Trends

The Rockets are 11-3 ATS in their last 14 games played overall and 6-2 against the spread in their last 8 games played on the road.

Houston has covered the point spread in seven of their last ten matchups against the 76ers when meeting in Philadelphia.

Philadelphia is only 3-7 against the spread in their last ten games played at home and 2-9 ATS in their last 11 versus Southwest Division opponents.

The Pick

Philadelphia has lost five games in a row and as a result they are starting to fade in the standings. Meanwhile, Houston has lost two straight, but they are clearly the hotter team in this contest. Expect them to run up and down the floor all night against Philadelphia.

Free Picks: Rockets at Bookmaker

Phoenix Suns (12-26 SU) at Chicago Bulls (20-14 SU)

Line: Bulls -8 ½, Over/Under 189

Tip off: 8:05 PM EST

Emphasis On The Total

Phoenix has gone over the posted total 17 times this season, while Chicago has eclipsed the number 14 times. However, both teams are in the bottom half of the league in points scored. The Suns are scoring an average of 95.5 points per game (19th) and the Bulls are dropping in just 93.9 a game, which is 26th best.

Betting Trends

Phoenix has stayed under the posted total in five of six overall and five of six versus Eastern Conference opponents.

Chicago has gone over the total in four of their last five overall, but they have kept it under in 10 of their last 11 games played on a Saturday.

Four of the last five meetings between these two teams have gone over the posted total.

So is our sports pick on the over or the under?

The Pick

Chicago is stingy when it comes to giving up points, especially at home, but that won’t stop the Suns from putting up some nice numbers tonight; and even though their offense is anything but elite, I think Chicago will score with ease against Phoenix, which will eventually push the final score over the posted total.
