Are people ready to take the New York Knicks seriously? They're one of the most profitable NBA picks in the Eastern Conference and are a pick'em choice on NBA odds Tuesday at the Miami Heat.

Season NBA Record: 2-0 ATS

Is it time to start believing in the Knicks? Their roster is a makeshift collection of has-beens and never-weres surrounding Carmelo Anthony and Kristaps Porzingis, but the Knicks (11-9 SU, 12-8 ATS) have found a way to win six of their last eight games at 7-1 ATS. The more you laugh at them, the more money they make.

Compare and contrast to the Heat (7-13 SU, 9-11 ATS), who face the long rebuild after the departures of both LeBron James and Dwyane Wade, and the unfortunate loss of Chris Bosh to long-term illness. Still, the Heat opened as 1-point home faves but are now down to pick'em on the NBA odds board for Tuesday's matchup with the Knicks, tipping off at 7:30 p.m. ET. Our very early consensus reports show a 52-percent lean toward the visitors.

A Knick Bag O' Funk

Maybe there's not as much value with the Knicks as we thought. FiveThirtyEight project the Heat to win 57 percent of the time, for an Elo-based spread of Miami -1.5. Then again, Elo wouldn't account much for New York's hot streak. No, Derrick Rose (-1.3 BPM) hasn't returned to his former MVP self, but Joakim Noah (+2.9 BPM) is still bringing the defense down low, as is back-up center Kyle O'Quinn (+2.6 BPM).

Too bad they're the best two defensive players on the team right now. Anthony (0.0 BPM) can still score some, but his defense is about as bad as it has ever been; Porzingis (+2.0 BPM) has vastly improved his offense as a sophomore, yet his defense has fallen off, too. Again, this might have to do with getting used to the new imports from Chicago as well as new head coach Jeff Hornacek. Things seem to be working just fine at the moment.

Elo wouldn't know about Miami's rash of injuries, either. In addition to Bosh, five other players are on the shelf, including our main man James Johnson (+1.8 BPM), who was the best performer on the Heat before straining his right rotator cuff. We'll definitely have to back New York for our NBA picks, thank you kindly.
